Hey all,
I started treatment about 2 months ago (doxy, flagyl and fluconazole) and my symptoms have all changed.

Before treatment I had severe burning in my forearms and lower legs, nothing that affected my strength or movement.

Now, my forearms constantly ache and feel very weak as do my lower legs/ankles.

Is this normal? Do any of you have muscle pain and weakness? It's really bothering me since my Lyme test came back negative (although I was already on Doxy for 1 month prior to test.)

Please let me know if you also have muscle pain and weakness, it will put my mind at ease. The thoughts of MS and Muscular Dystrophy have been dominating my time lately.

Paul

Yes, muscle pain and weakness are common symptoms of lyme disease which is why so many are diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

I had severe body wide muscle pain for 9 long years. I could not move an inch without pain. It got 70% better with IM ceftriaxone.

Inflammation is a huge issue for lyme patients and can be behind the muscle pain. Die off creates inflammation. It pays to get rid of toxins with a good detox program and to work on controlling inflammation by other means as well.

There are lots of posts in the archives about these issues.

I have both pain and weakness. Before I was DXed I kept saying my legs felt like jello, they didn't feel like they wanted to work anymore.

I still have it every once in a while, but it seems like a lot of things change daily.

"Do any of you have muscle pain and weakness?"

100% yes. One of my constant symptoms.

I know how it can make the mind wander wondering if you are missing something else, like MS. But this is definitely a Lyme and co-infection symptom!

Best of luck to you.

Thank you for all of your responses!

Sammi, I have been tested for co-infections and none of my tests came back positive.

My diagnosis was clinical, based off of my recollections from last summer and this winter. I hate that I second guess myself but the constant symptoms wear on me. I'll just have to suck it up and hope for the best!

I contracted the Beast 7 weeks ago on a cattle drive...little blood sucking beasties got me good! . The worst pain I've had is in my knee caps. It seems to bother my elbows, shins, & knee caps worse but the pain is not especially bad, thank God.

Muscle weakness? Oh my....one day I could barely lift my arms & legs, the next day I felt ok. And sleepy...!!! Good grief, every afternoon I would get so sleepy I'd make a run to Starbucks for a skinny latte, thinking the humidity was bringing me down. NOT!

Good luck to you, don't give up the fight!
