My son (6) is on Omnicef (Cefdinir) and Azithromycin for neuro Lyme. I asked my LLMD about herbs, but he was not knowledgeable about them.

I just read the research by Dr. Sapi (posted by Pinelady) and am concerned that we are not treating the cyst form. (LLMD did not want to prescribe Tindamax... said it causes dizziness in children.)

Does anyone take herbs such as Samento and/or Banderol WITH antibiotics?

My son has not been debilitated by Lyme THANKFULLY (even though he went undiagnosed for 2 years) and so far his herxes haven't bothered him too much, so I'm not overly concerned about additional herxing. Just wondering if it's OK to do both, or will the herbs interfere at all with the abx?

Any info would be appreciated!

I took Samento w/Antibiotics for the first 4 months or so of treatment. It produced some nasty herxes along the way. I don't think it has very good BBB penetration - I've had more success with Cumanda for that. But I think it helped with my other symptoms (arthritic, etc.) Good luck.

I know you asked about cyst form but my first concern is liver and ear safety. If your son is on zith, liver supplements would be very important to help prevent ear issues from the zith. Milk Thistle is the most common.

Grapefruit seed extract is supposed to break cysts. You may want to try that. It's very strong. I don't know how old you son is. Maybe do some research on that...?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Keebler - My son is already on milk thistle. His doc recommended it when I asked about liver support.

There are some specifically mixed herbals that have been designed NOT to interact with drugs or to interact as little as possible. Also available in liquids.

And a specific cyst buster, ATAK.

Ask / tell your doc to get them for you.
