I've been having horrible ear pain--feels like an ear infection with shooting pains (more so in the left) and fullness. I've said, "What?" and "Could you repeat that?" more times in the last month than I care to recall. I've had my ears checked--they're "fine".

My throat feels like there is a brick sitting in it. It's constant, and at times, I feel as if my throat will close. I get a pulsating feeling up both sides of my neck. My PCP felt around and told me to take some prevacid. On box prevacid and many tums later--no better.

Now, I've had a lot of symptoms over the last 2 years--horrible symptoms that have messed up my life--but never the symptoms I mentioned above. What is going on?

I'm assuming these symptoms are related to my antibiotics, as they didn't appear until I was on week 2 of amoxicillin. I'm currently in week 5. Is this a correct assumption?

WHY these new symptoms?!?! I can't take it. Honest to God. I feel like I am going to die. Added to everything I already deal with on a daily basis--it's too much. Will these symptoms go away? When I switch meds? Have I done some kind of permanent damage with 5 weeks of antibiotics?

Sorry to be a downer. I'm jut so terribly frustrated and I'm on vacation with my family, trying to pretend that I am feeling great and I am so angry that I can't enjoy my family and our outings as I should be able to.

Please, any advice?

Advice about the ears: have you been to see a neurotolgist (aka "balance doctors")? Very different from regular ENT docs. They can do a number of unique tests (specifically request VOR, VAT, and BAER if you pursue this) to see if the problems you're incurring are coming from your VIII cranial nerve, which would indicate CNS issues, vs ear problems.

Shooting pains and fullness in my ears- like a vacuum feeling too- were some of my first symptoms; next was dizziness/vertigo.

Don't know what to say about the throat thing, but it sounds like it must be really bothersome and frightening. Maybe others will chime in about that.

Hang in there!!

I had stabbing ear pains, head pains, ringing in my ears, etc.

I also had the fullness in the throat issue.

Couldn't seem to swallow if I wanted to.

Panic city!!!!

If I read correctly, you just started antibiotics?

Sounds like a herx to me.

Also sounds like possible co-infections lurking too.

Many of my ear symptoms went away with treatment for Lyme.

The sensation of throat closing up went away with treatment for babesia.

You are not a downer. Just sick and scared.

Hang in there.

Call your LLMD and let them know.

Hugs,

Geneal

So, these could be Lyme symptoms even though they didn't start until after I started antibiotics? And possibly a herx even though it's been 3 straight weeks?

Thankfully I haven't had any ringing in the ears.

I'll take a link at that link, Keebler, thanks!

Dawn,
Could you explain where the VIII cranial nerve runs in the head? Just curious and never heard of a balance doctor before. Wondering why some of the ENTs I saw here never suggested seeing one as I constantly complained of feeling like I was being pushed to the left w/ear pain, fullness. I am curious about the CNS vs. ear damage information.

Thanks!

Sorry Melvis, forgot to reply to your question.
I, too, have the ear pain/fullness/pressure and the weird throat sensation. I have fullness of the throat on the left side only. when I swallow, it feels like it only goes down one side of my throat - the left. It is strange. I had this before abx, but once on abx, my right ear started hurting and felt clogged. I never had right ear problems utnil abx, so I'm not sure it is hidden lyme coming out or the abx making it worse.

I have this exact thing. Have had it the whole time. It is somewhat better after 2 years of treatment; but still rears it ugly head from time to time.
