I had a gram stain done, and I had a few coccobacilli adherent to erythrocytes as well as a "substantial level" of biofilm structures.
I am really bummed. I took Rifampin for 6 months. I think Doc called in Cipro prescription at last phone visit if this was positive, though I can't get a hold of the nurse in his office.
It also seems to me that maybe there is some controversy about Fry Labs. I try to stay out of the political part of lyme, though that is harder and harder to do.
What is a Hemoplasma and what is the difference between that and Bart? Is Cipro effective? The plan was to move to IV Rocephin or IM Bicilin in 2 weeks. I just want to do whatever will get this crap out of my system so I can move on with my life.
-------------------- Lyme, Bart, possible Babs Currently on IV Doxy, Bactrim, Zithromax, Nystatin, Mepron Been on nearly every antibiotic since 10/09

I'm not sure. I don't trust Fry anymore based on what I read here. It seems like he finds something in everyone, but can't ID anything for anyone.

Dr Fry is the best and a brilliant man and you should trust your tests and learn all you can about it.
Many people do not understand it all so I would not use this forum for that education and go through your doctor and use his ability to call Dr Fry or Fry labs to get your info.
Its invaluable to this disease and to treating your whole illness.
Esp the Biofilm and Parasites in them....

that is excellent advice. Ask your doctor to call the lab and get information.you should knnow what you are treated for, etc. Gale

Personally I think the F lab and Clongen lab are seeing the same bacteria, but describing it differently.
I wish Clongen had a camera so they could document what they see better. But, for the money involved their test is much cheaper.
Hubby has never had the biofilm test from F lab -- I personally think the majority of tickborne patients have biofilm issues and don't see much value in this test. I would just treat assuming that biofilm is present.
As for Rifampin -- that med by itself usually will not get Bart. Need to combine it with another med -- Cipro might work, but Levaquin or Factive are stronger meds in the same class with better track records for bart.
One of the main problems with treating bart or BLO or mycoplasma is that some meds may be bacteriostatic but not bacteriocidal -- plus the 24 hour reproduction cycle is so much quicker than the lyme reproduction cycle.
This is not medical advice, just my opinion based on hubby's experiences.
