Hi there,
My son (15) just started abx Tuesday. He has had constant blurred vision since the onset of symtoms.

I've been reading topic after topic (& searches) on the forum to him for days but we havent seen much about blurred vison.

Has anyone else had this too?

And his main question... when does it get better?

Thanks so much,
Ma & TJ

I get blurred vision too - it actually started about a year into abx treatment.
I can't remember how long it lasted. Occasionally it shows up again when the inflammation is bad. It's definately uncomfortable and disconcerting.
Have you contacted your doctor about your son's vision?

Hi there,
Yes, he just saw Dr's J & M in CT on Tuesday.

Before we knew it was Lyme, I took him to an eye specialist. He had $600 worth of tests for them to tell us "I cant find anything wrong with your son's eyes".

He's also had EEG's, CTs & MRIs of the brain, so Docs think it is from his Lyme or co-infection.

He is on Augmentin 875 x2 daily & Mepron.

The blurred vison is the symptom that bothers him the most.

This rotten Lyme!!

Vision problems are not uncommon with Lyme maybe because one of the critters favorite hiding places is the eyes.

When I'm herxing my eyes are the worst. My eyes were the first symptom that I really paid attention to. I wear contacts and because they would only become blurred every now and then I thought I needed a new prescription.

I finally got around to seeing the eye doc and the prescription hadn't changed much. I explained the blurry vision and then he asked me some questions. I explained I often had pin prick feelings in my face. He ran lots of tests and couldn't find anything wrong. He suggested I talk to my physcian. This began many visits with many different doctors. I finally gave up after a year of seeing many doctors who all told me they couldn't find anything wrong even though I was exhibiting many symptoms after a year.

Thankfully, my son played a sport with a boy who has lyme. Listening to his mother over and over convinced me to get tested. I was so happy to have found the answer to all my questions.Of course it didn't take me long to realize that I had new unanswered questions.

My eyes had gotten better after being on ABX for about four months but they then became worse after almost a year of treatment. While on IV ABX they were really bad. One eye would be out of focus and I swear would go back to normal within hours only to have the other be out of focus. It is very frustrating. I am now on three shots a week of bicillin and haven't had the eye thing in almost two months. I have also had other symptoms disappear with the treatment of bicillin.
Now I don't know when to make an eye doctor appt. What if my eyes are acting up and the doctor gives me a prescription that is wrong?
I took my son recently to have his eyes checked. It was a bit frustrating talking to the doctor because I don't think she had even heard of lyme disease. Uh!

One thing my eye specialist did when I commented on my blurry vision mainly in one eye was order a CARTOID xrays ... checking my neck area for BLOCKED blood vessels. I have blockage but NOT ENOUGH to have surgery.

I would have never suspected the 2 of them being related so just passing along this idea even though your son is young! Good luck with him.

Also when I start getting migraine headaches, I go to eye vision center and have EACH of my 4 pairs of lenses checked for AXIS. With my strong lenses, just a smidge off gives me these horrible headaches. Bettyg [Cool]

I'm currently experiencing the blurred vision stuff as a result of Mepron/Zith treatment.

Three years of antibiotic treatment for Lyme had not brought this on until the Mepron/Zith and now it is a weekly occurance.

Had eyes checked out by two opthamalogists also. One said my eye was holding in fluid (it did look a bit larger than the other).

LLMD thinks the symptoms are from bug die off.

My son who is 16 now had vision problems early on in his illness. He has Lyme and Bartonella.

First was blurry vision - he had severe accomodative insufficiency - but the docs at the time didn't know why. It would come and go for hours to days at a time. Once it stayed for about three weeks, then cleared up. For a short while he wore reading glasses.

He also had depth perception problems - where he would lose it for (usually) brief periods, like minutes or hours. He would feel like he could reach out and touch something that was several feet away. Very strange and disconcerting.

After treatment he doesn't get the blurry vision anymore and has very rare occasions of the depth problem.

These type of eye problems can definitely be caused by Lyme. You could do a search on Lymenet and find other discussions of this.

Best of luck to both of you,
Nancy

Ma,

Check out this post to see a description of just one of my eye problems due to lyme. Thankfully, it had resolved itself in about a month or two.

I guess none of you have read any of MY previous posts!?!?!?!

THAT was one of my MAIN symptoms in the beginning, or actually just before I started healing my lyme with herbs last fall.

The ONLY thing that is going to help your blurred vision is HERBS. NO abx that I know of will help that.

AND YES, it is from Lyme.

Very common.

SOME of the things that helped me most are Devil's Claw, Sarsaparilla, Periwinkle Tincture, Stephania Root, etc..

Don't forget to use Milk Thistle, and Red Root Tincture also, to keep your lymph system clear while killing off the Chetes.

Damn I wish JimBob was still here. I have so many questions to ask him!!

Blurred vision is like my one remaining symptom and it's bugging me!

I don't think it's related to my hypoglycemia anymore.

I think it could be build up of fluids, or pressure, or inflammation, or ALL 3 OF THOSE!

I might give stephania a try

MA, I suffered from the blurred vision, depth preception problems about 6 months into my journey. Unfortunatly this is a common nurological symptom. As per Wikipedia there are 2 nerve fibers from each eye that go directly to the hypothalamus. The hypothlamus sits on top of the ceribral cortex and IS the "Chip inside" which controls the whole endocrine system. My LLMD put me on Cholostyramine to get rid of the nurotoxins which over the course of about 2 weeks the vision problems went away. Good luck. God Bless. Buzz

Is Welchol the same as Cholesterymine?

What's the herbal/natural equivalent to Cholesterymine?

Chlorella?

There is none. It's totally different approach. But Guggul is a similar RESIN that you might explore.

As for blurred vision: Lyme often affects the inner ear. Along with inner ear stress often comes NYSTAGMUS. You can search that.

Magnesium helps.

I stopped my blurred vision and all Lyme eye symptoms by drinking mangosteen juice, an anti-inflammatory antioxidant. There are lots of brands - I drink the Ultra mangosteen juice with 70 minerals added. If you try it, drink a lot of water too.
