I have been treating for over a year, with really no decrease in symptoms. I did orals for a year. Then bicillin for 4 months, and IV Invanz for 2 months, and since I said I had no improvement they switched me to vancomycin.
I started it on Wed. and by Fri, Sat. and Sun, I can hardly move. The joint pain is so bad. And, pain was never my biggest issue, it was fatigue. But, this pain, it seems like nothing will touch it.
It is in every joint, even fingers and toes, but mainly in the bigger joints. It is so bad that I have to lie flat on my back, because if I lay on my side, it places too much pressure on that joint!!
So, I stopped the vanco today, and will restart it tomorrow, but is this normal? Posts: 893 | From Florida | Registered: Dec 2008

I don't know anything about that particular drug, but man oh man I do know about that level of pain. Yes, even the fingers and toes.
I hope it gets better for you. I have always asked my Drs (if a med was hitting me too hard) if I could lower my dose. Maybe that is an option for you?

I guess I should be glad that this level of pain is not normal for me, but man, I can't get any relief from it.
Normally if I can get to sleep, I will be ok, but I can't even sleep through it.
I opted to not take this medicine this morning just because I was in so much pain. The pain is now down 50%. I have to think it is the medicine, or the medicine maybe hitting the bacteria hard. Not sure.

Not sure, I'm on IV vanco and getting stiffness and pains in the joints, but I'm also taking bactrim and this happened the last time I took bactrim.
