I've been reading and reading, and I see everyones case is somewhat different so I realize that no one can tell me exactly what is in store for me.
I am 26 and have been unknowingly infected for at least 8 years. I was on doxycycline the first 2-3 years i had it (it was for acne, a low dose, this is why i never had any initial rash, etc) and I've been off ALL medication/prescriptions for the last 4 years. ( was a heavy vicodin user during a year period so that i could get through work and workouts, etc.)
I am about to purchase health insurance, i've been w/o it for almost 4 years, and i am going to try to find a doc to treat me with abx and natural supplements. i hope to still use my homeopathic doc thats been helping me for the last year. Classical homeopaths kind of frown upon alopathic methods of treating, but hopefully he will understand i just want to get better soon.
I've heard some people being treated for years and still having awful pain. I'd like to think I'm not "as bad" because I have been able to work a fairly regular work load (35-40 hours). I've been able to do so because i haven't been exercising lately....
Once i exercise and start treating aggressively i have a feeling my work time will be cut in half so that I can keep up with sleeping and correct eating, and HEALING. I take extremely good care of myself as much as possible.
*****Does anyone have any idea on how long treatments can last? i am pretty certain i can be cured in 6 months, maybe a year. am i delusional for thinking it could be "that easy"? ******
Over the years I've been what some people call obsessed with health, eating certain diets and using certain therapies (all of which are indicated as helpful for treating lyme) even when i had no idea what my ailment was.
Does anybody ...any survivors out there at all that have been cured or almost cured that can give me (and others) an idea on whats ahead?
this is the happiest i've been in 8 years now that i know my ailment, i dont want to end up mad at the world again in a few years when treatments seem to go on and on and on and on, with no finish line in sight.
I will post my results below, still need to get the co-infection panel done.

Treatment length is so different for all of us. Depending on how long one has had it without treatment, it all varies. And depending on how strong the medication is and what type.
8 yrs ago, I went through 2 yrs of treatment... I did every drug from Dr. Burasscano's protocol.
I was great for 8yrs..... normal active life.
Last summer I came out of remission... and now have been on a low dose type treatment since Sept. The co-infection Babesia is what really is my bugger!
If we learn that yes, we have this disease, and yes, we'll always be a bit different... but that we can live a 'normal' life. I work full time and exercise... do normal things. I just know that at any given time, I can herx/flare and that I need more sleep and no stress than others.
Best wishes... positive attitude is half of it too!!

I had undiagnosed lyme disease (plus babesiosis and bartonella) for 10 years before a doctor figured out what it was.
I had lousy lyme treatment for 2 years, and then good lyme treatment for 1 year to get rid of my diseases.
It has now been over 5 years since I completed my treatment and I am still symptom free, enjoying my life. I have the same life I had before lyme disease.
The doc is the key to getting rid of this disease. I can't stress that enough. The doc is the key.
I suggest to everyone that they find a doc who has gotten rid if this disease for at least 3 people. That is the doc you want.
Many doctors treat lyme disease, but not many know how to get rid of it for someone. I learned this the hard way--wasting 2 years of taking antibiotics from a doctor who didn't know enough.
So, I suggest to everyone that they STUDY the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines to get their education on this disease. Then, find a doctor who follows these guidelines. That is how I and all my friends got well.
You can contact your lyme support groups in your state and other nearby states. See Support Groups on the left side of the page. Ask them for the names of doctors who follow Burrascano. Or, ask people on this board to help you.
Wish you the best.

So happy for all of you that got well keep fighting!

I did have the number 1 and 2 drs treating me the first time, so yes, the dr. is very important.
Dr. Burascano was nice enough to help my Montana GP treat me, and when he got too busy, he sent me to Dr. H, in Hyde Park,NY.
So, yes, great LLMD's are a must.... but still not a guarentee that you are 'cured' from it even after a few yrs.
A support group referal is the best way! I found my new llmd from ours and I count it a blessing that I have him now 'guiding' me to a healther me!

Just want to let you know that the good lyme doctors do not take health insurance.
You pay up front, and if you have insurance, you can submit a claim for reimbursement.

You can get better as long as you are determined and you have a very good Lyme doctor who will be on the journey with you and treat all of you, not just the Lyme. There are only a handful of doctors in the world that really know how to treat these complex tick infections. Keep reading and asking questions!
