Hi!

Can you see a LLMD and get treated if you were previously diagnosed clinicaly through an infectious disease dr?

What if your blood tests are negative?

What will a LLMD dr. do if he/she doesn't agree with the infectious disease dr.'s diagnosis?

Do you get something from the infectious disease dr. to bring with you that says "you were diagnosed"?

I am asking because I believe I received this in June of this year. I spent alot of time at a t-ball field coaching my son's team and the field is infested with ticks.

So I am afraid the 21 days of doxy will not be enough and I don't know if this dr. will treat beyond that.

Thanks.

I would get recommendations for an LLMD, then try to ask patients of his what they think.

An ILADS LLMD will know to diagnose clinically based on symptoms, so it would be no problem continuing treatment if an ID doc saw enough to diagnose you. However, I have seen people come back on here saying a supposed LLMD won't diagnose them, so best to get actual patient feedback.

So is your test negative?? I've really never heard of an ID dr who clinically diagnosed someone with Lyme. That is amazing!

Six is right.. make sure you find at least 3 happy satisfied customers before proceeding with a name given to you.

The doctor needs to be highly recommended... not just "recommended".. hope that makes sense!!

Still awaiting test results.

Thanks for the info.

Of course if my test results are positive then I would imagine having an easier time getting treated by a LLMD.

Yes I was clinically diagnosed through an ID Dr. who is an infectious disease specialist.

He said he diagnoses Lyme every single day!

I spoke with him this morning and asked if he treats beyond the standard 3 weeks and he said yes!

I was shocked to hear that.

But of course he did say let's see how your feeling.

He wants to see me weekly and my next appt. is this Friday.

You found a rare ID dr then. Lucky you!

I don't think you'll have any trouble with an LLMD treating you.

Sounds hopeful.......really hopeful with this ID doc. I'm sure there are some who may be "closet LLMD's".

I'm sure there are some closet "LLMDs" too but I also met a "LLMD" and he said he treated past the standard time by the ISDA, but really he didn't in all cases. Only when the PCR through a mainstream lab was still positive after treatment.

But getting a clinical diagnosis from an ID doc is great! An LLMD will treat based on symptoms, it doesn't matter if you have a negative test.

If he's willing to treat you and your insurance covers it, you might stick with him for a while .... if it appears that it's going to end, then look for an LLMD. That's what I'd do ....

Or, if treatment comes to a standstill, then it's time to move on.

He may not treat for co-infections, though. I would ask him.

Many are treated for Lyme and don't get well b/c of an undiagnosed co-infection of Babesia and/or Bartonella.
