I am happy to say that we have started Rocephin (IV push). The doxy cleared up a lot for me, but it caused a lot of GI distress. Some of my neuro symptoms have remained, so we're hoping for better BB penetration with Rocephin.

I'm on Day 4, having mild herx (mostly fatigue).

How long until I start to see an improvement do you think? I don't usually herx much with treatment, so I don't expect to stay down for long, though with this drug I suppose it could happen.

Lyme, Bart, possible Babs
Currently on IV Doxy, Bactrim, Zithromax, Nystatin, Mepron
Been on nearly every antibiotic since 10/09

About 60% improvement. Dizziness, air hunger remain.

I took this in the very beginning of my treatment when I was really sick. I started to feel better in the 5th week.

I'm usually a quick herxer. I haven't herxed too bad on Rocephin but had days with tons of fatigue. Nothing like the days when I couldn't get myself off the floor, and no fevers as of yet.

I am only on week 3 of pulsed therapy, but it definitely helps my neuro symptoms, while other abx wouldn't. I have actually been worse on my days off, and an infusion can bring relief (if only for 5 or 6 hours). However, this morning, something happened that was miraculous (well, to me anyway). I woke up, and didn't feel like I was overstimulated, didn't have the usual "I feel like I am going to die" feeling, and going back to sleep was actually possible. It's a little thing, but nonetheless, it's a terrible feeling and it was so pleasant when it wasn't there.

What I fear about this drug is relapse. I know I will have to use other drugs/supplements to prevent it.

Rocephin is not easy on my GI unfortunately. I expected it to be easier. I have to take lots of Probiotics an I am starting Florastor now as well.

Make sure they give you Actigall while on Rocephin. It's stupid not to use it. I think my gallbladder was backed up prior to starting Rocephin, because I released what looked to be large, floating, smooth, tan colored cholesterol stones after a couple weeks.

From my research, it doesn't look like Rocephin is a magic bullet, but I hope it will help me back on my feet and able to do simple things again; such as driving down the street.

Rocephin did not cause a dramatic reaction initially. Around week 4 I remember having an emotional herx, was more sensitive and slightly depressed for a few days.

Overall it worked slow and steady. I noticed improvements after about 5-6mo. I took it with other oral meds and supplements.

Unfortunately the improvements did not last. I wish I could say they did.

IV is not a quick or guaranteed fix. It takes time, trial and error like oral meds. You have to work closely with your doctor to find the right antibiotic combination to treat your infections.

Good luck [Smile]

For the moment. I have really struggled with antibiotic side effects, so it's challenging to find the right combo. I'm going to be doing Diflucan and grapefruit seed extract as well and we might add other therapies in, but doc likes to take things slow so we know what the reaction is from if I have one.

Rocephin was the best at relieving my symptoms by 80-85%, however I was afraid everything was in cyst form. I added IV azithromycin and had increased headaches and now on day 3 1000mg oral flagyl with muscle twitching. I dont think rocephin alone is good but is VERY effective for the spirochette form of lyme.
