Starting tonite. Some people said bactrim was great, couldn't tolerate it. Anyone on rifampin? We're all different, but anything I should look out for? Thanks.

I like it but it is combined with biaxin right now.
On a 10 day switcharoo protocol that is working good for me. Really helps my rash.

I hated it.
Caused muscle contractions (cramps) for me.
From my bladder to my legs every night.
It may help to up magnesium while on this med.
However, on a lighter note,
My children thought it was "way cool" that I could pee orange.
Hugs,

I don't know if I felt horrible on it because it was working or because it wasn't working. After three months waiting for the window to open, I gave up and went to Bactrim DS and rapidly made progress. It could be the stage was set for me to start to get better by the rifampin. I have wondered if I took it again if I would see more progress because I have plateaued on Bactrim. Good luck.

Daughter couldn't tolerate even a small dose of rifampin 25 mg from a compounding pharm. Trying mino/zith for now, but anticipating that she'll start bactrim soon.
Good luck...hope it works for you.

I found that it made me feel out of control, like I was PMS'ing all the time. That faded after about 1.5 months or so, and while my temper isn't as good as I'd like it to be, it's better.
I also had increased forehead acne, and slight fatigue. I'm also able to lose weight now, due to it apparently lowering cortisol levels. Libido is down as well - I was warned about that too.

Rifampin is one of the best meds for me along with Clindamycin. I hope it helps you!

Is rifampin usually taken with food or on an empty stomach? I will be starting rifampin this weekend and am unclear if I need to 'buffer' it by taking it with my meals.
I forgot to ask my LLMD when he gave me the prescription and, right now, feel incapable of calling his office and asking the question. Too much fatigue, brain fog and a massive headache. I am really hoping that rifampin will help!

Rifampin should be taken on an empty stomach. Its effectiveness may be reduced by as much as 30% when taken with food.

Thanks to both of you. I finally had enough energy to call my doctor's office and he also says to take with food. He is very concerned about the possible impact on the stomach. But I also saw that the directions said to take on an empty stomach, thus my confusion.
I will take with food. I am hoping this will make the headaches go away. Like now!
