Just wondering about plaquinel. Have any of you had success with it?

Just adding it to my regime. Seems like there are alot of side effects.

I don't see a whole lot of postings related to plaquinel.

Just wanted your opinions.

Thanks!

My 13 year old son in taking Plaquenil and it has done wonders for him. He has had no side effects.

Hope that helps a little...

I have taken it with doxy and had no problems.

I had the most improvement on doxy/plaquenil so far.

Thanks so much.

What is the standard dose that most of you guys are on?

Also, has anyone experienced eye problems or had to have an eye exam first prior to taking it.

Many Thanks,

Katrina

400 mg is the standard dose. I tried it a while back. it caused a lot of leg muscle pain the first time. Not the second time.

Yes, you should have a baseline eye exam before starting and every 6 months.

When I added plaquenil, I did feel worse for about the first week. It increased my muscle jerking and tremor symptoms, especially at night.

I had two big flare ups two nights in a row about 4-5 days after starting, then those symptoms seemed to settle down.

Good luck

plaquenil changes your blood ph thus stripping bio films allowing the abx you take with it to kill ketes !

if you feel worse while taking it , that is because it is working !

I am on week 4 with Plaquenil+Bicillin injections+ Zithro and herxing like a rabid squirrel. I feel like absolute poop. So hopefully it is working. Supposedly what I am experiencing is right on schedule and common so that is encouraging, even though I would like to jump off of a cliff right now....

lymeboy,

I've heard Bicillin and really be effective and the herx can be bad and last awhile initially.

Hopefully, you will see improvement soon. I was told that somewhere around the 8 week people see a big improvement.

If zithro isn't working for you try Biaxin it made a world of difference for me. Same family but I think better penetration.

Best to everyone!

Thanks so much Wiggy.
It seems that many have had success with it.

I'm starting with 200mgs and will work up to 400mgs in the next day or so.

I just made an appointment with the eye doctor today.

Best to everyone!

Katrina

I love plaquenil! Once we added that to my cocktail of abx, I really started to see improvement. I actually started having days where I was completely symptom-free! It's really made a big difference for me.

Is plaquenil used to kill the borrelia or is it used to modulate (calm) the immune system??

The reason I am asking if it used to calm the immune system as I've read that others with auotimmune disorders such as lupus or MS take plaquenil....

Has anyone tried plaquenil by itself after doing abx for awhile???

thanks

Have been on Plaquenil/Biaxin for 10 weeks with zero side effects. Herxed fairly hard on this combo @ 5-6 weeks and seen slow and steady improvement since then.

It is supposed to be a mild "cyst buster" though if you look that up you will find a lot of confusion on the subject
So far it has evoked the biggest reactio I have had yet....
