My dr prescribed lyrica. Can anyone share any thoughts on this drug. I have heard more bad than good.

I was wondering too. Other than the side effects they list on
the tv, which should scare us all- but they do that for every med.....

Just made me swell up. It's one more drug to try to get off of later. And getting OFF is not easy, I hear.

I don't know about lyrica, but cymbalta, a different drug that is also marketed as an AD that also helps with pain... has helped me a great deal.
I was on an antidepressant before starting cymbalta, so it just replaced what I was already taking... but it continued to help my mood, but also really helped with my pain, it also seems to give me a little more pep, and clarity. not sure if that is from the drug or just being in less pain. but for the first time in my life I seem to have motivation to exercise.
I think with all these things... it's a personal decision based on your quality of life. I don't mind taking something to help me... if it makes me able to live and enjoy my life better. for me it's worth the risks.

- I see this is your first post. I hope you find what you need and hope you find a good lyme literate doctor who can address the cause of the symptoms.
Lyrica will do nothing about addressing the cause. It may help mask pain in the time being but, in my experience, there are better ways. -

- There are 65 other threads with "Lyrica" in the subject heading. Just go to the search link, plug it into the MEDICAL forum, SUBJECT line to find those.
Lots of posts from those who have used lyrica. Hope you find the input you need.

My doctor prescribed it to help me sleep (I had bad fibro, too). It did help with the pain as well and I slept great. It took me six months to wean off it, I was really addicted.
Have you tried turmeric? And gluten free as mentioned above? I also found rice to cause as much inflammation as gluten.

When you say your addicted, what were your symptoms as you tried to wean off?
Some days I will forget one dose and my pain is a lot worse. I am trying to determine if this is real pain or from addiction.

Honestly, it's been 5 years, so I don't remember everything about it. I used it for sleep though I did feel better early in the day when it was still working from the night before.
I slowly weaned off it. All I remember is that I did an every other day system (half dose one day, full the next) until I could stand a half dose two days in a row. Then when I got used to that, I took a dose one day, and none the next (if I could stand it). Etc.
I don't remember what symptoms I had when I was going off it.
