Hi, I know someone who just came up positive for this. I've never even heard of this before....are there any other tick borne viruses that are more obscure? Also, what do people know about this, is there any effective treatment?

All I know is that it is reportable to the CDC as a biological weapon. It is a tick borne virus that effects the CNS. Not sure the treatment, possibly antivirals?

not trying to scare you. There is not much info out there on Powassan. An LLMD would know better the treatment.
Ticks can transmit numerous pathogens. When I googled Powassan awhile ago, I could not get much info on it. I know with a lot of the other tick borne viruses, the antivirals seem to be the treatment of choice according to Dr B.
Again, I am sorry if I scared you. some viruses can be self limiting and others can cause chronic symptoms...I think it depepends a lot on each persons immune system.
Best wishes
