So..I'm going to the dentist Friday to get a cavity filled.

My Dentist doesn't use any mercury based fillings. He only uses the white fillings.

Should I be concerned about a flare?

If the dentist is not drilling out an already existing amalgam, then the only cause of a flare would be stirring up pathogens or bacteria in that tooth. I don't know how probable this is and it's something you should ask the doctor about.

Probably would be a good idea to get a dental materials panel test done which tests for biocompatibility of the filling materials to be used. There are several different kinds of "white" fillings. If your body reacts negatively to whatever composites are used for the filling material, then you're just creating a new problem.

Dental White Composite fillings are all made of Resin and or glass particles. Some are nano sizes some aren't. That does not change the chemistry of them, just the polishablity of them.

Different companies make different composite fillers. All are basically the same. Some are packable, some are flowable... same.

Long term effects on putting plastic and the bonding agents that are used with them, have not been studied. It's only been in the last 25 years that they have been using this replacement for alloy.

I do not have flares when having work done.
I have been in the dental industry/office for a very long time.

I believe stress could bring on a flare, so try not to be stressed with this visit. All should be good.

just a thought -- if you need to have local anesthesia for your filling, you might want to ask for an anesthetic without epinephrine. if your nervous system is sensitive (like mine is!) any stimulant/depressant's effects are magnified.

i just had a few composite fillings done with epi-free local anesthesia and had no adverse reactions.
