I was in the hospital Sunday night, My fever spiked up, and climbed for hours. Once I had trouble breathing in, I decided that I didn't want to die, and had my friend call an ambulance. They took me to some hospital in the middle of nowhere, ( iwas at a Labor day picnic in the middle of nowhere.) My fever finally dropped to a tolerable 102, they wrote me off as a headache and discharged me a few hrs l8r. In fairness to them, I refused an IV or even Advil. I write this, because this is my second MAJOR herx (?) on the newest regimen. My first one was at the start of week 4. My second one was right around week 8, give or take a few days. My understanding is that LB has a 4 week life cycle, (or something like that) and that the Herxes can typically occur every 4 weeks, on treatment. Last LLMD visit he was very positive that we are killing it off quite well, and that what I had was a definite herx. Im guessing he will say the same about this last one. I WANT to believe that this is die off. I do have symptoms. Since Sunday, I have had a major headache. Movement hurts. Eye movement hurts. Head aches in different sections periodically. Hopefully die off. BUT- Im still not sure. I know that the antibiotics are evil toxic sludge, and I cant quiet the annoying skeptic in my head saying that the drugs are killing me. I am on a pretty potent cocktail - IM + Plaqunl+ pulsed Zithro+ homeopathic Artemesia drops. Plus a BUNCH of supps. all the recommended ones and then some. (BTW I have found L Theanine to be unbelievably good for Neuro function) Am I getting better? Because I feel worse! Is someone out there that has had similar experiences on a similar regimen? Did it work? Are you healed? Are you worse? I want to think positive. It's hard when you're all messed up month after month after month.....

This happened to my daughter a number of times in July. Fever went too high and she felt too sick. Went to the ER.
We were treating her Babs. Dr. took her off the babs. meds and let her body rest a few weeks then started her on Ceftin. Night and day improvement. Dr. said we will hit the babs again later when she is stronger.
Have you thought of lowering or stopping your Art. until things improve. I heard the herxes that are too big are counter productive.

Lymeboy,
Breathing problems and fevers are common during a herx....I know that you were scared out of your mind, but next time, with a fever oof 105, it may be prudent to consider something to take it down.....
On the upside....that high fever may have killed a few more bugs!
Hang in there...it does appear that you are showing a pattern with your herxes (every 4 weeks).
Best, Feelfit

By the way two er docs were nice and said they knew about this disease but not how to treat it. The others were sooo nasty I just wanted to cry.
I drive 2 hours to get to my daughter when she is having an emergency and I am so rattle and scared by the time I get there. I am always afraid she will die, am I doing the right thing, etc. I am afraid to take her in but afraid not to.
When she is crying that she just wants to sleep or die, or that it hurts too much, or worse she is too weak to call for help my heart breaks. It doesn't help I am worse than she is most of the time.

momofthree, I am already on a pretty low dose of Art. I take 5 drops twice a day. I know people get up to like 20 -25 drops/ day. I don't even know if the drops I take are very potent, they are indicated for more of a detox. The product is even called "Biotox Elim" Not really sure how this brand fares in the Artemesia world, but I am trying to keep faith in my current LLMD. He's the first one to produce solid results, even if those results are making me feel like death.

It was brought to my attention by a mod that you were being sarcastic in your post. I left you a couple of harsh comments last night that have since been deleted.
I am sorry that I didn't get the sarcasm at all and replied to you in the severe way I did.
It just struck me as odd that you'd call an ambulance only to refuse help when you had such a high fever. If I were a doc or EMT I'd wonder if you were heading toward sepsis (life-threatening). And so I'd be very frustrated by you refusing an IV. I'd wonder why I was wasting time on someone who didn't want my help knowing others would welcome it. I know am sounding harsh again, but I don't know how else to say it.
Not everything is Lyme. Remember that even among the lyme-illiterate, there are still intelligent and caring healthcare providers. You were in a crisis situation. You could have had something else going on other than a herx. There was no way for you or the EMTs or ER staff to know that. If you had an infection and were in sepsis (which is what a high fever might indicate), you could have died.
I have unfortunately had a lot of experiences with ERs, IVs and high fevers, not to mention Lyme Disease, coinfections and herxes as well as a variety of other health issues. And I've had my share of a$$hole doctors and nurses both in and outside of the ER.
So my point to you and others reading: 1) absolutely call 9-1-1 when you are in a medical crisis 2) allow EMTs/ER personnel to insert an IV and administer fluids ESPECIALLY if you are febrile and 3) don't assume your crisis is due to a herx or a Lyme symptom.
Remember that the ER exists to provide EMERGENCY care. Who cares if the docs or nurses there understand lyme? They understand sepsis, stroke, heart attack, trauma. They will do basic exams, take routine blood tests and cultures, do EKGs, administer fluids, etc. The ER doesn't nor do they care to replace your treating doc. And treating docs, LLMDs or not, don't take the place of the ER.
Good for you that you want to think positive. You aren't messed up...you are ill. I hope that you feel better soon. Please talk to your LLMD. A herx this severe is very worrisome.
I apologize again for my very severe posts to you last night and hope you forgive me. I was out of line. I wish you all the best.
