I just talked with a homehealth agency to administer IV infusion orderded by our llmd. She said that she has arranged with a nursing office to come and use midline catheter. I checked online info and it seems to suggest this is a less permanent solution compared to a PICC line. Anyone has any experience with it?
I could have a local doctor ot work with the out-of-State llmd to get a PICC line. Should I just insist to have that done from get go?
Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

I had midline by nurse for the rocephen...it only goes in from near the crook of elboow to the shoulder area.
I was so nervous my muscles so tense it hurt like a heck. Get a muscle relaxer prior if you think you'll tense.
The next time I had IV I had a PICC line. That goes up to the heart area.
If you get PICC get it done at hospital with the "X-Ray" thingy ? to make sure it is seated correctly.
It was done in hospital as out-patient in surgery room. It was real nice because I didn't feel a thing.

Don't go with the midline for rochephin. This drug is very caustic to the veins and can cause severe irratation to the veins
I had to have mine pulled three weeks into therapy. It was like shooting acid into my veins
Go with the picc, it will last much longer, who knows how long your treatment might be.
Just my opinion- Been to hell and back 1 midline 4 piccs (2 pulled due to clotting) 1 hickman catheter (the best for me for the long term)

I had a midline years ago. 1 was done at a hospital, that one had to be pulled because ith iv fluids infiltrated my subcutaneous tissue.
#2 done by a home care agency by a certifed iv RN. no further problems with it. I guess it all depends on the person.

wtl, see if your local doc will cosign with your LLMD or rewrite the order for a PICC line. It is more appropriate for long term IV treatment.
