My LLMD recently gave me 300mg 2x a day fo Rifampin and 500mg 2x a day of Biaxin plus Plaquenil.

Prior to that I did Levaquin for almost 3 months, but was starting to really effect my joints so he switched me.

Last night was my first dose of the combo above, and today my head feels like a brick and my insides feel weird.

Is this normal? He gave me that combo to treat Bartonella and Lyme. He thought Lyme may have been treated but once I started with the joint aches, he was suspicious that I still had the Lyme.

Are there any other side effects besides the orange urine? Any info helpful.

This seems like a good combo IHMO (I'm not a Dr.)

I did Biaxin with Amantadine for 12 weeks. Worked well for me. Amantadine raises the cellular PH and makes the biaxin work better...just like Plaquenil, but doesn't have the potential vision issues.

Did Levaquin for 2 weeks and stopped last Friday due to achilles tenderness. Just started 300mg Rifampin last night and will up to 600 in a few days.

Feel pretty good so far. I suspect the Bart is on the run!

bcb120-- do you mean 600mg once a day or 600mg 2x a day?

I need to take my next dose now and I am not sure how I feel about that since I am at work. LOL

I don't think anybody takes 1200 mg of Rifampin a day.

I'm on Biaxin and Rifampin and now, Bactrim. Rifampin really nailed me at first. I've been on it for over six months now. Bartonella must be really tough.

When I had a relapse a couple of months ago I dug into the old abx and took 300mg rifampin once a day along with the 500 zithro and bactrim ds twice a day that I have been taking for over 9 months. It seemed to knock it back down for me. I ran out of rifampin and am currently waiting for a LLMD appointment.

Rifampin was really rough the first 3 weeks. But after that, I found out it was so worth it!

Rifampin can cause nasty herxes - but make sure you also get your liver enzymes checked regularly.
