Generic! Mucinex is the name brand, you can purchase the store brand usually found sitting next to the name brand on the shelf.

If you go to the pharmacy and get confused by all that is offered ask for help. They can make sure that you get what you need and want and don't end up going home with something unplanned.

No Mucinex has all kinds of fillers , binders, and colorings in it. If you go on prohealth.com they have a pure guai that is fast acting or time released. I have been dxed with MCS and have no problem with this brand.

Pugs, if you're going to give it a real shot, make sure you eliminate all sources of salicylates in your life. Otherwise - your guai won't have the desired effect.

Eliminating sals can be tricky.

There's one poster here - in addition to the above apparently - that has lots of guai experience, hopefully she'll be along soon...

I did it for several years, by the way, and got great results - but Lyme and co treatment is what really did the trick for me.

But I bet guai would be helpful while in treatment.

My husband and I both did the guai protocol for years. Avoided salicylates. We found no benefit.

If your muscles have lots of painful trigger points, and you don't seem to clear your lactic acid after exercise, you may benefit from guai. There is a true Fibromyalgia that is unrelated to Lyme, but, of course, can be exacerbated by it.

I think Dr. St. Amand was really onto something. He just didn't understand how many of his patients were infected, especially the hypoglycemia group. Honestly, I think most of the benefits in the infected group came from the hypoglycemia diet.

But there are many who do benefit from the guai.

Also look into oxalic acid in foods. Some people need to eat a low oxalate diet, as they store excessive oxalic acid in the soft tissues. Guai allows the body to clear this, as well.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
