Ok so my brother gives me a ride to the bank today in his convertable corvette

it has been raining here for the past week or so.

I can smell mold in the car after sitting in there for a few minutes so I rolled the window down for the rest of the 10 minute trip

how dangerous is mold ? and is it less dangerous in a car then in a home? I have smelled mold in cars before and never had a problem

but was just curious because I have been treating for lyme for 2 months and have heard some people talk about mold in their homes making them sick.

how concerned should I be about 10 minutes of exposure in a car?

Paul

From what I gather, I would not be concerned about that. Your body will flush those toxins out eventually, since it was a one-time exposure.....it's moreso the longterm exposure you need to worry about, because then you are always in a toxic state.

There are certain types of black mold you don't want to exposure yourself to even once, but that's more for people removing it from homes.....but there is no way of telling if that type is in his car or not, because a lot of things can cause a musty smell.

I would not be too concerned over this one time exposure but you should not ride in that car until the matter is corrected. Neither should he.

I'm very sensitive to mold. I can smell it as soon as I walk into a building or near a source.

I've had mold grow in the air vents of my car (it's 10 yrs old). I didn't notice the smell right away but started having itchy eyes, stuffy nose, and headaches every day on my way to and from work. Symptoms went away when about an hour after leaving the car. Then I started noticing a musty smell and I knew immediately what it was.

My dad changed the air filter but that didn't help so we ended up spraying lysol into the air intake and ran the vents on high for several minutes, it sucked the lysol in and apparently took care of the mold. No problems since. It was a very cheap fix!

Of course this might not be the problem with your brother's car but it might be worth looking into.
