I dont know if anyone remembers me, I used to be a regular on this board. I have been too sick. Among my long list of issues is severe multiple chemical sensitivities.

Has anyone found a way or even heard of a way to effectively reduce the reaction of chemical sensitivities?

Yes I do do detox
Burbur/parsley
Milk thistle
Glutathione
Artichoke extract.

I appreciate all your thoughts/insights/experiences. The person that typed this for me will inform me of your responses.

Best Wishes,
Azure Wish

I totally know where you are with this....

I imagine you've done most of these things, but...... what really helped me was to get as many chemicals out of my house and out of my food as I possibly could.

Now, cleaning in my house is done basically with only baking soda and vinegar. To disinfect toilets, etc. I use rubbing alcohol.

Changed all detergents, dish powder and liquid to Seventh Generation which is plant-based, perfume and dye free.

We shower with Dr. Bronners organic castile soap, and use the best chem free shampoo and conditioners we can find.

We don't really eat much of any processed foods. For the most part, everything we buy is whole and organic. So we make all of our meals home made. (Very few exceptions are things like 'Marys gone crackers", or organic corn chips.)

And NO PLASTIC. We have no tupperware, only use pyrex or corning ware.

Even get rid of scented candles, etc. Roll up carpets if you have to. Wash drapes if they were hung new out of the package.

Hope I was able to pass along some ideas that may be a help to you. All of these little things together made a HUGE difference in my life.

Best to you,
Tammy

Hi AZURE,

Yes, I remember you. Sorry to hear you are still so sick. I used to have severe MCS. What got rid of it for me was doing antiparasitc herbs and salt/c. Adrenal support helped as well. Pantothentic acid 500mg is very supportive as is the salt/c for the adrenals.

I also got rid of very bad asthma as well. Check out the symptom list for parasites, by googling parasite symptoms. I am sure others will come along with info for you as well.

Are you living in a moldy house? Mold exposure is what caused my MCS. Now, if there's even just a bit of mold under the sink or in the shower, my MCS gets far far worse.

Is there old carpet in your house? Does your fridge, sink, windows, etc. leak? Any water damage anywhere? Indoor plants of any kind?

Pekana Remedies really help a lot of people with MCS to detox and they're really tolerable. I know a lot of people just do the detox kit, but I've done more of their remedies and like them all. I'd take a look at their page and talk to your doctor about the ones you think might help you:

People with MCS often have great difficulty when they encounter:
pesticides sprayed outdoors and in buildings
perfumes and fragrances
cigarette smoke
scented soap
dry cleaning residues
air fresheners
strong smells in the detergent aisle at the grocery store
clothing washed in detergents and fabric softeners that leave a smell
common household cleansers
new carpet or flooring
common building paints with VOCs (volatile organic compounds)
solvents
chlorine in municipal water supplies
pressed wood or plywood, especially that which contains formaldehyde
moldy carpets
newsprint
natural gas
plastic with strong smells as in new cars and products made of soft, pliable plastics
computers, printers, and copiers

MCS occurs in all races, usually developing after age 30; it also strikes many more women than men.

Symptoms range from mild to disabling and even to life-threatening.

Chronic fatigue syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome, fibromyalgia and Candida overgrowth are frequently found in people with MCS. It is not yet clear whether these are separate diseases or different manifestations of the same underlying problem.

The avoidance of pollutants/toxicants is the best protection, albeit extremely hard to achieve.

One's genetic makeup is key; one can inherit a predisposition to MCS.

Women have a greater total percentage of body fat, which stores chemicals.

Women's immune systems are more complicated because they need to protect and accept a 'foreign' fetus in the womb.

Women use more fragrances, hair coloring, hair sprays, lipstick and other makeup with known
toxic ingredients.

Women typically do the house cleaning, and are exposed daily to toxic products.

Women are more likely to use diet foods, with synthetic content, such as aspartame (Nutrasweet), sorbitol, etc.

The past or present use of antibiotics and/or birth control pills is an additional risk factor.

The whole house is fragrance free (and persons living in it). If it wasnt i would probaly die.

I am homebound for many reasons but if mcs was my only symptom I would still be homebound.

My diet is very strict and i do not have candida issues I also do not eat many chemicals.

The parasite thing is interesting because although i have been sick with lyme/ babs for 23 years (many years undiagnosed) I NEVER had a mcs problem at all until I started treating the babs. I can no longer treat the babs because i just get worse (more toxic). I would be afraid to treat parasites in general because I am to the point I just can get any worse.

Also I don't think we have mold issues. Ive been living here over 20 years (thats how old the house is) we NEVER had any water damage or anything like that.... and like i said never had an issue until babs treatment.

I need to get a test done because i might have a digestive bleed - besides all my other issues. I can't leave the house. If I get exposed it could put me flat in bed in so much pain i cant eat or anything for awhile.

For persons who have the genetic form of MCS, they tend to have problems with detox, especially problems with methylation and sulfation. There are treatment protocols for this on the internet (and probably forums and discussion group, too, I would imagine).

Just do a Google search for Rich van Konynenburg's materials on MCS which will lead you to a lot of similar related information. Pretty soon, you'll have "information overload" because there is a whole lot of up-to-date information out there about MCS now.

I had MCS a few years ago that was probably as severe as what you describe. I'm doing pretty good today though, so you can beat this. My suggestions...

1) Try eating a raw whole food diet. In other words, eat only single ingredient raw foods, uncooked preferably, that you yourself mix together.

2) Take daily hot baking soda baths, remaining in the tub until your pores open up and you begin to sweat profusely. I believe this is what really saved me...sweating, sweating, sweating. It took the strain off my liver, and I now can tolerate some exposures, though I still buy fragrance-free products to avoid ever backsliding.

Azure Wish,
I remember that you used to come into chat.

I'm so sorry to hear that you are so ill.
It sounds like you are doing everything you can.

Dr. Amy Myhill has some great information, perhaps you can find something to help on her site.

Pekana Detox combined with Pekana Toxex. NaturalHealingHouse.Com is the people I work with. You can call them directly and ask them whether this would be appropriate.

Their website is the same as their name.
