Topic: Why WOULDN'T one take Nystatin from day 1 of abx treatment?

So...I'm in my 7th month of abx treatment. I have been on 2 pills of Nystatin 2x / day since day 1 of treatment.
It is gentle, safe to use long term, and cheap. It only stays in the GI tract, but that is where most yeast starts anyway.
Given how many people have yeast issues / concerns while on Abx, why wouldn't one take Nystatin?
The only argument I have heard is you can't take Florastore, but my LLMD says you can as long as it is 3 hours before / after Nystatin and Abx.
Nystatin has helped me. I ususally have a good diet, but do "cheat" ocasionally, like on Friday's when I have Pizza and Ice Cream with my family to keep my sanity. So far so good. (knock on wood)

Off topic but I remember when you were first starting abx. Can't believe 7 months passed already..

Yup...just hit my 6 month anniversary 2 days ago. Now in month 7.
Was hoping to be done by now. If only I can clear the mild tinnitus, calf twitching, left foot pain, mild jaw stiffness and GI/ Reflux. Probably Bart.
Just started Bactrim and will watch for Stevens Johnson Syndrome like a hawk. If all goes well, will add Rifabutin in 10 days. Want to nuke this for good.

I wonder the same thing.
It seems like a lot of LLMD's do keep their patients on Nystatin for the duration of treatment.
When I hear of people who aren't on it, I wonder why.

Does it work better as a preventive than a treatment? When I develop yeast issues, nystatin does not help. I'd sure be willing to take it long-term if it would keep me from developing a problem.

Yes, it works better as a preventative. And yes, everyone should work hard to prevent yeast. It is a booger to get rid of once you get it.

i don't know why I was not given it until I had yeast. It seems like a good idea to take it all along.
I had to quit abx Oct 27 to try to get rid of my black tongue. I have been taking nystatin and really being strict with my diet. Things are getting back to normal. Go to the LLMD next week end.

I'm going to ask my doc about this--prescription only? I have been on abx about 6 months but I think I've had chronic yeast for years. I recently learned all my bladder and odd sweating issues were caused by yeast.

I felt great on Diflucan at the start of my lyme tx last month. I keep hearing Diflucan is MORE gentle on the liver than Nystantin, but then recently I heard the exact opposite?
I've been on it in years past and it seemed to be ok, my doc wants to probably have me on a few pills of Diflucan off and on to help with the yeast... is Nystantin "better"?

My doctor told me that it can cause inflammation. I have not had that problem. I do think it can cause mild constipation with me but that's about it.
