I desperately need input. I have been taking Mepron 1 tsp. 2 x day, Bactrim DS 2 x day and Zith 500mg 1 x day. Only been on Mepron and Zith 3 months and Bactrim DS 1 month.

LLMD suggested dropping Zith and adding Doxy because of lyme symtpoms. He also prescribed Albenza for parasites.

LLMD told me a couple of months ago that Mepron needed Zith or Biaxin and that Doxy would make Mepron less effective. However, he is now discontinuting the macroglide and adding doxy?? Mepron dosage is still only 1 teaspoon twice a day.

I told him I remembered him saying the above things, but he said I must have read it somewhere and he didn't remember saying that.

I have enough Zith that I could continue it on my own and not take doxy, but don't know if that's the right call either.

Is it time to find a new LLMD??

I think so... Mepron needs to be combined with a macrolide like Zith, or Biaxin in order not to create a resistance to the abx.

I think you can work up to 2 tsp. twice a day with Mepron.

I don't have enough Mepron to take twice daily. I have enough Prescriptions, but pharmacy makes me wait nearly 30 days to refill.

I already take Minocycline, Azithromycin and Bactrim DS with Rifampin and Flagyl right now.

What's wrong with just adding Doxy?

I'm under the impression that when I started Mepron or Malarone, I'll be taking everything except Rifampin and Flagyl.

I think doxy makes Mepron less effective.

Some people do take them together but increase Mepron to 2 teaspoons.
