A few questions for those who have taken Serrapeptase:
Did you take it for biofilms?
Did you herx from it, did it help you?
Did you take it with or without food? If taken on an empty stomach, how long did you wait until you ate?
I found out today I will be starting this before I start the Daraprim. Any advice is appreciated!

You need to take it on an empty stomach, so that the tablets pass into the intestines.
If you take it with food, the enzymes will help to digest the food. From what I've read, about 25% of the enzyme is absorbed in the intestines.
When I first found out about Serrapeptase to reduce inflammation, I publicized it on this board. I bought a bunch, and was disappointed when I didn't notice anything.
I tried a couple other systemic enzymes, and when I tried Wobenzym, a blend, I hit paydirt. I worked up to 12 tablets, and took them in one dose, in the morning when I woke.
I had read that doctors in Europe prescribe Serrapeptase to ease arthritis pain, but I did not notice any difference. But within two weeks of starting the Wobenzym, I noticed that my severe daily headache was reducing. This was a HUGE improvment.
When I switched to a different product, my headaches and body pain returned, and I was glad to get back on Wobenzym.
Another member of LymeNet tried Serrapeptase, and wasn't noticing any reduction of pain. After talking with him in the chat room, he increased his dose, and began having good results.
Yes, it's supposed to reduce biofilms. I've read that many LLMD's tell their patients to take systemic enzymes along with the antibiotics, to help them work better.
Your question about taking it with food shows that your doctor has not explained this very well to you. If he does that with all his patients, they are not going to get much benefit from it.
What dose will you be taking?

Carol, thank you for your informative reply.
I am gald you found an enzyme that really works for you. Your results sound very encouraging.
I don't have it in front of me, but I believe I start with two 500 mg pills daily.

Haley, I did alot of reading before I started it. Several of the research papers said that the physicians in Europe would give 20 to 30 tablets at a time "to force therapeutic response."
Yes, I could take four tablets three times daily, but there is no way I can manage to have an empty stomach for the other doses.
I've read accounts from other people who are taking more than that, but when I increased the dose, scratches bled longer.
You should do whatever your physician advises. You have hired him for his knowledge and experience.

I often take serrapeptase along with other systemic enzymes (nattokinase, boluoke, vitalzym) for biofilms, inflammation, and thick blood.
Systemic enzymes should always be taken on an empty stomach, 3 hours after eating and 30-60 minutes before a meal.
If you want to take something to assist with digestion, regular digestive enzymes are better for that.
Taking systemic enzymes with meals would be kind of a waste because they are too expensive for that purpose and would not be as useful as digestive enzymes.
