I don't have any. Not sure what this means. Do you?

Some things I've read (but not sure if true): Could be low oxygen, low iron, or low zinc. ???

found this online:

"It is completely normal for people not to have nail half moons, or "lunule". However, if you once had prominent moons, and they have dissappeared in a relatively short period, COMBINED with nail darkening, then it could be a sign of a health condition. That being said, people's moons naturally dissappear as they get older. If it bothers you, ask your doctor. But I myself have never had moons (again, only tiny ones on my thumbs) and I'm in perfect health."

Fingernails can reveal a lot. Ridges, white spots all mean something.

I have very prominent half moons. An ND I see from time to time always looks for them. He says it has something to do with protein.

Many different opinions out there including mineral imbalance.

I have half moons, but they start out large on my thumbs and then diminish to barely visible by the time you reach my pinkies. What's that mean? Circulation problems? Or is that normal?

totally normal. The strong likely hood is that this (which is what i have) and the original posters nails are not indicative of any health issue whatsoever.

I have moons on my thumbs. I used to have none at all on my fingers, but my first two fingers are starting to get them, barely.

I don't think they know what causes this .... every website says something different.

I used to have them but when I got sick I lost all of them. Then as I became more well during treatment they returned on my thumbs. Finally a trace on my pointing fingers, which can disappear if I have a relapse. Presently i don't have much, if anything, on any fingers.

There are not supposed to be any moons on your pinkie fingers but they should be on the other fingers. If you had them and lost them, I believe it is a sign of illness. I see them as an indication of my general overall health, or lack of it.

I also developed ridges on my fingernails and they became very brittle. If I allow them to grow out even a fraction of an inch they catch and break off back into the quick.

Oh my, this is a new one for me. I've always had them on my fingers, but now as I look at them I can see the the half moons on my thumbs have shrunk and they are totally missing from my fingers.

Weird, I hadn't noticed that.

Bumping up an old topic.

Moons are now prominent on my thumbs. They are now starting to appear on my index and middle finger with no further B12/folate supplementation.

I am almost sure the cause for me is systemic toxicity combined with CNS dysfunction. I find that taking P5P every once in a while keeps my detox going.

Using non-specific heavy metal testing with a dithizone reagent indicates continuous off-the-charts heavy metal detox.

While there are days that feel like setbacks, anxiety is generally improving day to day in a linear fashion.

Note: I lost ALL lunulae at one point (that incliudes thumbs). Supplementing with 25 mg B12 injections, Folate, and P5P (methylation) would bring back lunulae a bit, but stopping it resulted in lunulae quickly disappearing.

My hypothesis: I think the lack of lunulae in many chronic Lyme and/or CFS patient may stem from CNS dysfunction, heavy metal toxicity, candidiasis, and/or systemic toxicity resulting in or from very poor detox/methylation.

My detox is very obvious. There can be high urine specific gravity (not due to dehydration since it can occur after consuming a large amount of liquids), beer colored urine, and even foam. From a nephrology standpoint, everything has been ruled out. There is very mild elevation in my ALT liver enzymes. Overall, I feel better, and have a lot more energy.

Not on any antibiotics right now.

I'd be interested if unexplained anxiety or depression (not necessarily both) is a prominent symptom in those that lack lunulae.
