Does lyme disease ever go away without anti biotic treatment? I mean is the body capable of defeating lyme on its own like the common cold?

Probably depends on how bad your symptoms are and whether or not your immune system can get control of it.
I think this would be very rare, though, for it to go away all on it's own with no treatment. But not impossible.
I wouldn't want to sit around and wait to find out, and then be wrong.

Thank you for the reply Hambone. I was bit in 1988, had the rash and the weird flu, fatigue, joint pain, swollen glands for almost 3 years.... long story. I hit 36 out of 46 on the quick lyme checklist.

Doesn't sound like you are defeating it on your own.

There are other ways of treating Lyme that don't require abx. You just have to research and see what all your options are. I've made great improvements using natural remedies, diet and exercise, among other things.
Your body can fight lyme disease to a large extent if you get your body's immune system built up enough to do it, but that's not to say it's an easy thing to accomplish, it isn't. It is possible, yes.
Some will disagree, but that's the beauty of this forum, you can read all the different ways people got better here and come to your own conclusions.
The key is, research, ask questions, research, ask questions, research, ask questions, well, you get the idea...

Your telling me, I have been asking Dr's about lyme for 23 years.I have seen dozens and none have ever agreed it could be lyme.

That is what I am learning.
Thank you for your help.

You have to go to a lyme literate doctor. We can give you names here (in Seeking a Doctor forum), or you can contact lyme support groups and get names. See Support Groups on the left side of the page.
Even with a positive lyme test, regular doctors refused to agree I had lyme and refused to treat me.
That is because lyme is in the midst of a medical controversy. There are 2 camps. You have to get a doctor from the lyme literate camp. Then, you can get treated and get well.
A Boston TV show did this story on lyme disease about 3 years ago. The show was taped by a girl on LymeNet and she put it on-line for all of us to be able to view it. You will learn a lot about the medical controversy surrounding lyme disease and why it is so hard to find a doctor who knows how to cure a person of lyme disease.
You will also hear over and over how people tested negative for lyme disease, only to find out later that they actually had the disease.
Also, I strongly suggest you read the Burrascano lyme treatment guidelines found here:
Pay particular attention to the list of lyme symptoms on pages 9-10 and the importance of that bite, rash, and "flu" you had in 1988. Tell that to a lyme doctor, and you will get action.

Gary, thank you for the reply and information.
TF, thank you for the links, Dr B's 2008 pdf guide is how I found out my symptoms could be explained by 1 disease (lyme) and helped me find this site.
I am looking for a LLMD and I have a post in seeking a Dr, no replies yet.

Very good. Contact support groups in your state also. Contact all of them. They will tell you who is getting people well.
You may have to travel out of state to get good treatment. At least half of all lyme patients have to travel out of state for their care.
Please persevere.
I call it the lyme disease holocaust. This is how it will go down in medical history. Many, many people are suffering for years, their lives stolen by this disease, while our doctors are oblivious and think we are mentally ill--hypochondriacs, lazy, depressed, etc. Meanwhile, we are suffering untold misery--torture, really.
And, the medical establishment goes after our lyme doctors and tries to take away their licenses to practice medicine.

Apparnetly, My immune system held off Lyme and co's pretty well for at least 10 years, probably more. I had minor symptoms but was able to function OK. Until Total Knee Replacement Surgery last September when all hell broke loose and Lyme and co's took over and suddenly debilitated.
