Hi
I started suplementing for adrenal exhaustion yesterday but today I woke up with a feeling of "enlarged" thyroid gland , sore neck... Did that ever happen to anyone, does that mean I should stop supplementing my adrenals? What is that?

I did not have those exact symptoms, but have had major difficulty supplementing my low adrenal function. When I take anything to help the adrenals, my symptoms such as pain, fatigue and depression get signifigantly worse. Hope this is not the case with you. Good luck.

Wow, does your doctor have any idea about this? I will see mine next week so I haven't had a chance to ask him yet...

Actually, no. He believes it may just be extreme chemical sensitivity. He is a highly regarded LLMD and I seem to have him stumped. He has referred me to another Dr. who is an environmental illness specialist, so we shall see.

Personally, I think when you stimulate my adrenals or thyroid glands, my system is flooded with bacteria.

I actually wonder if it's not from the pituitary gland disfunction... as it regulates thyroid and adrenals... have you ever tried LDN, i will ask my doctor for it... I just don't want to develop goiter or even worse cancer... damn I'm just so scared...

I have heard to be careful with the thyroid and adrenal supplements in relation to each other.

Don't know if this is the case here, but one idea is you have helped the adrenals out well and that told the rest of your body to get going, so your thyroid is trying to keep up, but can't do it.

Among the other ideas given or yet-to-be-given, you might look at what you're doing to supplement your thyroid, and possibly adjust that. Key thyroid supplements are iodine (Iodoral 12.5 mg/day, much higher than the USRDA, is good for many), n-acetyl-tyrosine, and copper. For most, copper is recommended at nighttime and the others in the morning.

WHAT did you take and how much? What is the directed dose for after one is used to this?

How much water and how much sodium did you consume yesterday? Normal amounts for you? Less or more?

Did you consume any new food or drink yesterday? Near any new products, scents?

MCS, as Rene suggests, may be a factor. Do you have MCS normally. If so, or even if not, it may be that this is just not the right product or formula for you at this point in time.

Go back over your literature search of the Rx or the supplement and see if this is listed by any of the authors. Normally, it's good to read from at least 3 authors. For endocrine matters, I'd say read from about 6 -8 authors who have MD or ND credentials, or similar training and certification.

Also cross search at PubMed.

For a start, there is a set of adrenal links here - be sure to read them ALL before adding anything new. Your library will carry some of the books, especially the Wilson book. It's also not just about taking something (either Rx or supplement). There are many important behavior techniques that can be life saving.

Do you have a link? If so, I'll take a look. When I searched, Google asks: "Do you mean Adrenasense" ?

So, a direct link to the manufacturer's site with a link to the ingredient list would be of help.

As for taking 3 pills at the very first start, it's really best to always start with just one, no matter what the dose is.

I seriously doubt it would feed bacteria. But I'd like to see what was in it. My guess is that if the reaction was from this (and it may or may not be - as there could be other variables) that it was just too much, too soon. Or you might be sensitive to something in it.

Could it have been "Adrenal Essence" by Xymogen (white and blue bottle)?

I'm probably the opposite of everyone. I have high cortisol. I have been tried on 2 supplements to lower cortisol. Would get up in the morning with depression and anxiety. Also nausea and no appetite.

I am on numerous sleep meds and still do not get enough sleep. Was hoping to get my cortisol lower so I could get off some meds. Very confusing as to why these supps do this to me.

Keltyl, Lyme patients often have elevated cortisol - that is what's so damaging to the blood vessels and causes anxiety. But, they also have sharp drops and the number can be flip flopped at the wrong times of day. Elevated cortisol as a out of whack reaction of stress is what keeps many awake at night.

This author discusses how the high cortisol reaction seen in lyme can cause all sorts of other problems (and why adrenal support is so vital while treating infection):

Thanks Keebler. You explained mine exactly. Too high when I should be sleeping and early in am. During the day it was up, down, and all over.

I'm just not understanding the effects I'm getting if I take supps at night to lower it. Two of them being Sedalin and Cortisol Manager. The Sedalin I only took one night and got up next morning and threw it away. The Cortisol Manager I took for awhile, and was blaming my morning anxiety, depression. Also had nausa and loss of appetite. Was blaming it on something else, but when I stopped it everything stopped.

Back where I started taking numerous sleeep meds and only getting 5 or 6 (if that), hrs of sleep.

For Keltyl - You may want to try Cortisol Calm by Pure Encapsulation. This may help you tone down your levels. There are different stages of adrenal problems. May I ask what tests have you done to determine your problem?

Shahbah - Have you recently had your thyroid numbers checked? TSH, Free T3, and Free T4? If so please post or PM to me. Are you on thyroid meds, if so, what kind (synthetic vs dessicated)

Next the adrenals have to have support in order for the thyroid to function properly. This is also assuming the thyroid meds are being converted efficiently to T3 (synthetics T4 conversion) A great adrenal supplement is ADR also by Pure Encapsulation.

As far as the correlation with the adrenal supplements and the neck pain this would depend on if you are hyperthyroid or hypo. If you are hypo chances are you need more meds or meds that can be converted. Hyper there may be toxic nodules?

Hope this helps
