I've treated Babesia extensively. The type of Babesia I have is definitely an unknown species (or perhaps one that has been identified but is not known to be pathogenic to humans. I suspect the former: Unknown.

Like others with persistent babesia species who "did not test positive on multiple smears, from multiple conventional laboratories as well as Igenex, I treated the disease, and have now confirmed a relapse.

Treatment began 2 years ago. The choice was High dose of Dr. Zhang Artemesiae, 3 capsules per day, as he (Zhang personally instructed), combined with Mepron 2tsp x 2, and Azithromycin 250mg x 2. We then moved to an even higher dose of Zhang Art of 2 capsules x 3 (Weekends off). Symptoms continued. My primary symptom was drenching night sweats which required me to change my cloths anywhere from 20-30 times per night, as well as shortness of breath.

When Mepron/Azith/Art failed to diminish symptoms in 3 months, we rotated to Malarone 100/250 x 2, combined with Art, same dose, and Dorxy 150mg XL x 2.

Symptoms improved quickly, within about 2-3 weeks. Lyme Disease also improved. 4 weeks of improvements took place and then a massive backslide. Dorxy had failed and was removed 3 months later. Tetracycline took Dorxy place, combined with the continued therapy of Art and Malarone (same doses). Symptoms of Babesia remained entirely gone (from the time we added Malarone)

Dorxy took the place of Tetracycline a couple months later, Zhang Art was removed, Malarone continued.

Malarone remained. Lariam was added to Malarone which continued for three months.

14 months later into Babesia treatment, I decided it was time to end therapy. That was the start of August 2010.

3 months later, November and "Now, December" the drenching night sweats have returned. I used Rife therapy once on it prior to the symptoms returning.

This is one resistant son of a *****. I'm going to hammer it again today using Rife.

I'm having a hard time getting rid of it too. I have not had too many tests done for babs but the ones i have had have been negative like you.

I'm on lariam, flagyl and ketek now and hoping to switch to bactrm, lariam, malarone, flagyl after christmas. I got well once before on bactrim, rifampin.

I have seen many posts from duncani victims claiming to get rid of that strain with bactrim in the mix so I'm going that route.

We just can't quit. New malaria drugs are coming out all the time and I have responded very well to those. Someday, we'll get it!

My plan if Rife fails in the next month is to go back to Artimisinin (Not Zhang), combine it with Byron White Herbs, add Malarone, and continue to Rife for Babesia.

If "THAT" doesn't kill it, then IV or oral (IV) or intramuscular (IM) artesunate combined with Clindymycin, and Pyronaridine, with Malarone will be a powerful combination.

Holy crap. I pray I don't have that strain! [Frown] I haven't been successful either, but I haven't done 1/10th of what you have. Good luck.

How drenching are your night sweats? Are we talking just a dampness, or do you wake up soaked?

I ask because I've tested negative on all BAbs testing, including the IGENEX FISH. I don't really have air hunger...but I do have mild night sweats and some history of dizziness, etc, chills. But this could by lyme/bart too.

Sometimes "heavily damp" while other times soaked, with my hair as wet as if I'd just come out of a shower. The problem is it happens all night long. I get literally dehydrated from sweating and have to keep drinking all night.

I have suspected babesia for quite some time although test after test negative. finally spirostat with CAPILLARY finger stick came back positive for babesia and anaplasma. the first test with venous sample was negative so repeated.

Clindmycin is very helpful w/ Babs.

Enula and Mora from NM are too.

Also, I would look more extensively into using formulas for parasites; such as humaworm and others.

Alinia is promising but I have not personally experimented w/ it yet.

Hang in there Mike, I know this has been a never ending struggle for you.

Know that you will prevail in the end.

Best.

Clindamycin was a HUGE help for me for 10-days when I took it for elevated ASO titers. Herxed hard for 3 days and then felt more energy. Docs are afraid of it though. I am too after my possible C-Diff diagnosis a few months ago. I wish I would've tried it when I had the chance. [Frown] My LLMD Rxed it.

I feel your pain. Had the never ending night (and day) sweats coupled with horrific itching. Eleven months and six doctors/six misdiagnosis later - found out I had lyme. Did rounds of antibiotics but found amoxicillin worked for me for both the sweats and skin condition. Itching started about a week and a half ago after 7 years symptom free. Stress sucks! Best of luck to you!

I tried an experiment last night which is related to this topic.

I smoked a very small amount of marijuana (medical purpose) to induce sleep. I slept from 10:30 p.m. untill 6 a.m. without waking out and without sweating.

This is not the final test, but thus far, only three drugs that "don't" treat Babesia, are able to suppress some of the night sweats. Ativan, Demoral, and now this.

Thought it was worth noting. To go from drenching sweats to none, by merely using a different drug tells me a lot about how these sweats are triggered. They are of the central nervous system, likely the part of the brain that controls sweat, temp, and other basic things. The drug must suppress some of these.

oh, that is interesting. I think you might look into the possiblity that this is not a species of babs but something else.

Have you had a Fry smear done?

These are my symptoms
floaters
swollen gland in throat
night sweats only during menstrual cycle
light sensativity
heart palps
lots of lung issues/breathing problems
shortness of breath
poor stamina

Hey, whatever works.

If you read about Marijuana in general it has anti-bacterial properties and is a mild abx.

Very useful for some w/ Lyme (including my brother)

Best

Mike,

I have been reading about your intense struggle against babesia. I am just wondering if perhaps you could be infected with intestinal parasites/worms which can cause the kind of night sweats you are describing.

Have you ever taken antiparasitics such as the ones that contain wormwood, black walnut hull and cloves? Perhaps you have the Micro Filarial co-infection and not babs.

I used to have really bad night sweats until I got rid of this co-infection. Also, maybe consider some salt//c. Hope you give this angle of parasitic infection some consideration.

Mike,
Have you ever taken GSE for an extended period of time? I know it is not talked about for babs but it seems to be working for us. Just a thought - it might actually work on a strain that is resistant to common treatments.... especially since I dont think it is used that often.

We use agrisept-L.

TB, yeah I've used extensive amounts of GSE from Nutribiotics. I have not done the Humaworm yet, though, which may be a wise move even now, as Gael said. It was one part of my treatment that I never got around to, so I think I'll do that shortly.

MB.

Just a note about antiparasitic herbs. It is very important to stay on them for an extended period.

Parastroy suggests 6 mos and 1 mos off. I made a big mistake taking a 90 day break as Humaworm suggested. You can alternate the different herbs as well. Salt/c is also a powerful adjunct.

Good luck, hope and pray you do well,

Gael

I have to second the parasite possibility.

It seems w/ everything you have tried, parasitic treatments have been somewhat overlooked.

Best.

Expanding on what gael said - parasites can hold bacterias/metals/fungi - and the bacterias (as I understand it) can continue to be harmful to you (releasing toxins)

So if someone were seemingly unable to rid themselves of a co-infection - I would def look at parasite treatment.

It's helped me tremendously.

Just wanted to mention I take Bragg's ACV (liquid) 1-3x daily (1/3 cup@ time) and I believe this is helping the whole parasite issue too.

It's anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-bacterial, and helps the body detox naturally.

I am sure you have tried this in the past, but it's a good measure to employ daily IMO.

Best

I also drink ACV, unfiltered, raw and organic and have for years....but I am still sick.

So what to take to rid us of Babesia? I have had multiple positive tests for Babs....but who is to say one can't have multiple strains?

I enjoyed a 7-yr remission of most LD symptoms after treating intensively for intestinal parasites with several different abx.

At the time, I thought my LD was cured and gone.

Never treated my Babesia or Bartonella infections until this yr.

My LLMD & I plan to "worm me" next year, after Babesia is knocked down.

I wish we could all be cleansed of the environmental toxins and parasites that hinder our vitality.

Figured someone would ask! Still trying to dig up those old records for my LLMD!

I had 3 or 4 different abx, one at a time, no days off, for about 7 weeks. When the ID doc was about to switch abx the first time, I said, "While we're at it, prescribe an antibiotic that kills Lyme, too."

Aside from that stint, I'd had little abx prior, compared to many Americans.

Several friends of mine were excited for me. We thought I'd kicked the LD along with the parasites.
