I have been on zithro (500 mg) / clind / mepron (2 tsp) since May 15th. Also cycle artemsia and grapefruit juice (3 wks on and one wk off). i upped my mepron dosage to four tsp per day in Nov.

Why the hell are my numbers fluctuating? My doc uses the EOS cateotonic protein by Labcorp as a guide. My numbers started at 18, fell to 7, went back up to 15, and down again to seven, back up to fifteen.... Grrrrrr! My Fry test also was positive for Lyme.

I also had BLOs on my Fry test about a year ago and almost completely elliminated that w Levaquin, bicillin, and tindamax. That also appears to be returning.

What does one do? Is it possible that you just can't get rid of Babesia???? If so, how did you do it and how long did it take?

I never heard of any doc using that as a measure. Is it something your LLMD made up as a diagnostic tool for Babesia? Seems odd to me.

If a person tests negative on both the Babesia microti and Babesia duncani tests, the eosinophil cationic protein test (ECP) should be done. Babesia would cause a person to have a higher than normal score on this test.

It is a way to see if the body is getting rid of the Babesia load.

Increasing the dose was a good move.

From page 24 of Burrascano:

"Treatment failures usually are related to inadequate atovaquone levels. Therefore, patients who are not cured with this regimen can be retreated with higher doses (and atovaquone blood levels can be checked), as this has proven effective in many of my patients. Artemesia (a nonprescription herb) should be added in all cases. Metronidazole or Bactrim can also be added to increase efficacy, but there is minimal clinical data on how much more effective this will be."

The doc can also check your mepron levels as Dr. B states above. That will show if it is all being absorbed. You know to eat a lot of fat with it so that is all absorbed and not wasted.

Forgot about this test -- discussed by the "nameless" LLMD in his babs book. See item #14 at the link below.

http://tinyurl.com/26lbc9l

Note the correct spelling of the test -- Eosinophil Cationic Protein (ECP) -- think it is available from both Quest and LabCorp.

I will be asking hubby's new LLMD about this test next week.

ichelp -- Many LLMD's believe that babesia duncani (WA-1) strain requires treatment for at least a year rather than the 4 -6 months that babesia microti is treated. I would try malarone and/or add 1 or 2 other babesia meds to my protocol if the mepron, zith and art are not working.

Good Luck.
