Just curious how many of you have heard that a

malar rash, otherwise known as a butterfly rash,

could be a symptom of lyme. I have been somewhat

out of the lyme community for a few years. My 12

year old daughter was recently diagnosed again. She

had it 2006 and we just got results that she has it

again. Last year I asked that she be tested for

RA because of joint pain, air hunger, and chest

pain. Her RA and lyme came back neg. Now, not

even a year later her new lyme is positive. On

100mg doxy for only 2 days and the malar rash is

brighter than it has been recently. HAs anyone

had this symptom?

Malar rash is usually attributed to Lupus, and I have many Lupus-like symptoms, but am very sure it's caused by Lyme and co-infections.

I developed a malar-like rash on my face. My LLMD attributes it to Bartonella. However, I think it could actually be the medication and not the infection. In my case, I didn't have any rash until I started Minocycline and Azithromycin.

Two drugs that can cause drug-induced Lupus that disappears when the medication is discontinued.

Ooops I meant to say lupus, not RA. She was tested for both, all tests were neg. Malar rash has

been present on and off for the past two years. I've seen it listed as a symptom, but only a couple

of times. She had this rash before starting doxy.

Just really curious what everyone thinks.

Thank you so much for your reply

I have a rash that comes and goes (5 yrs) on my face. I can't really say it's butterfly, because the rash goes across my cheeks and then down to both sides of my mouth.

I've had the ANA tests numerous times always neg. After some research lately I think the rash is more of the "slapped cheek" or 5th disease type.

I'm positive I have bart, but no + tests results. I've also seen some info lately about a virus called Parvo b-19.

Just another virus that's suppose to be simple and not long term. Yeah, yeah yeah!!!!
