My (well known) llmd recommends NAC for liver support and detox.
Lately I've been getting horrible headaches, and I'm trying to figure out why. My headaches are global headaches and feel like my brain is swelling, especially in the back. Who knows because I've switched abx recently, but I've also increase my NAC to 2x a day.
After researching on here, some do not recommend NAC because it moves metals, and possibly moves them to your brain, which really scares me.
Just wondering others thoughts.

My LLMD just had me start taking it, too, for the same reason.

I take NAC - isn't it a precursor to glutathione?
I take a NAC, ALA, and milk thistle combination

NAC might also be rough on people with certain sulfur pathway related mutations (like SUOX) and/or for those allergic to sulfa meds. (Google Amy Yasko's work for lots more info about the first.)

I just started taking it because I was hoping it would help with production of glutathione. Didn't know some of these things about NAC..... moving metals, possibly to the brain...... rough on people who are allergic to sulfa meds (I am).
Often when I think I am starting something good I get stopped in my tracks. One of these days I'd actually like to take 2 steps forward before having to take 1 back.
Thanks for posting this info. I'm going to keep my eyes out for additional info. Sometimes we hear conflicting things so it's hard to know what's correct.

NAC..... moving metals, possibly to the brain??
Do you have something saying this is NAC or is it the combo supplement with ALA?
I commented on a thread about the ALA moving metals from the brain... we have been supplementing with ALA since we found Dr. B's guidelines.
There is a lot of info there on ALA being able to move heavy metals from the brain. Therefore if your body is not able to detox the heavy metals yet... you should not be taking ALA at all.
If you have amalgams, in my opinion, no ALA.
I have stopped all ALA supplementing for now. Stopped CoQ10 too because it is my understanding that CoQ10 needs ALA.
I have to admit... I have a lot of brain fog and have trouble keeping things straight. So do your own research and don't take what I say as gospel. This may account for why there are conflicting statements from people on this board. A lot of brain fog = a lot of different interpretations of data.
This heavy metal stuff is serious business -- not to be taken lightly.
I would say - not without a doctor's supervision... but we are starting without because we have not yet found a doctor who will help with heavy metal detox or HPU/KPU.

Toxic mold was suppressing our immune systems, causing extreme pain, brain fog and magnifying symptoms. Four days after moving out, the healing began. Posts: 2007 | From NY/VT Border | Registered: Aug 2010

or maybe add heavy metals chelators because keeping the heavy metals in your body is not going to help either...
