My mother has been off IV rocephin for over two weeks now due to a low wbc count. Does anybody know if the count wbc will rise? And is infusing doxy a better choice than rocephin due to this side effect?
She is also taking transfer factor to help, thanks to lymenet!

Any antibiotic can cause this side effect.
Is her doctor rechecking the labs every week? Her WBC should go back to normal soon.

It has been about three weeks and they are creeping back. The doc is checking her labs, but I am just wondering if it is wise to remain on the rocephin? or would doxy be a better choice? Thanks

However, there are other causes of low wbc and her doctor should also be looking into those. Maybe she could try restarting the rocephin and see if the same thing happens....
It doesn't appear that doxy causes a low WBC (according to the double check MD website) but I checked oral doxy not IV.
You can also ask your pharmacist for their input.
