After starting my antibiotis and supplements I developed horrible esophagus problems, that lasted for days. I stopped all meds except meds for the esoph. and ate little amounts and only certain foods.

Well, things seemed to improve so started back on my vitamins and supplements a little at a time then was going to add the abx .. Within 4 days the esoph. problem was back. So back to no supplements/vitamins and it is better. I am thinking of only trying the antibiotic but its doxy and it says not to take dairy or antiacids while taking it but I am so afraid if I don't get back on the antibiotic I might die.

Can't get to the doc till next week and she is only a PA not familiar with lyme so far no luck with a LLMD.

Wondering if any of you ever had the same problem and if you have taken antiacids while taking doxy.
Tks.

I've had reflux issues for year. When I recently added ketek, it did increase that problem for a while. I assume it was die-off.

Were you able to get some DGL yet? That always helped my esophagus.

Be sure to avoid any antacids that contain aluminum.

==================

Just one brand:

CeaseFire wafers:

DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice extract) & Gum Mastic

A couple of suggestions:

If you believe Doxy is the main culprit, make sure to take it with food, or in the middle of a meal. Better yet, if your insurance covers it, ask to get Doryx instead. It is much, much more stomach friendly than regular Doxy.

What supplements are you taking and anything that could cause acid reflux?

DGL may help a little. I tried it when my belly was acting up -- enzymatic therapy makes a decent chocolate flavored DGL.

But what really helped me one time after I irritated my esophagus from Doxy was Manuka Honey. It's expensive, but it did help a lot.

I used this one:

I wouldn't recommend using it (or DGL) longterm, but for a once in a while thing, it should be fine.

I am not sure if its the doxy or supplements .. I have been off doxy and started adding the supplements back slowly and the esoph. problems started again. So thought I would stop the supplements and just do doxy, yes I always take it in the middle of a meal. I wish I had a doctor that would help and not give me the no hope for you look. I am searching for one.

No I haven't tried the DGL as I haven't been able to leave the house.

No, have not been tested for Pyloi, what is it and how do they test? All the doctors know to do here are CBC's ...well sometimes you don't even get that.

Thanks,
phyl
