No signs of babs, but would like to make sure it's gone after taking Mepron, Zith, Bactrim DS for 7 months.
Now on Rifampin and Zith for bart, pulsiing Tidamax 2 days week and may be switching to flagyl.
Any herbs that can be used for babs while on above abx?

AHHH! This is just speaking from personal experience but I would NOT take grapefruit seed extract while on Rifampin. I made that mistake while not really thinking and the reaction was quite severe, and not exactly in a herxing way.

Actually, it would be best to talk to your LLMD about adding herbs to a protocol. I just thought of GSE for babs...don't know if there would be a reaction - we didn't have any problems mixing them, but others could, as little olive.
Little Olive - Just curious - how do you know you weren't just herxing or reacting to the GSE...how do you know it was b/c of the rifampin? Have you tried GSE alone w/o rifampin?
Thanks, tickbattler

I don't think GSE and Rifampin react. I did both..no problemo.

Yes, I have. I've taken GSE in the past and herxed from it. It's extremely powerful on its own. It exacerbated my symptoms, even messed up my Lyme's replication pattern! But when I took the GSE while on the Rifampin, my breathing became very labored and I was too weak to move, literally. It scared my family. Had I been thinking about it, I wouldn't have even tried it, but I wasn't thinking!
Rifampin increases the metabolism of things by the liver, especially the P450 enzyme pathway. It's well known that you don't take anything grapefruit while on any medication that does this, so that's the best explanation I can give as to why I reacted so strongly. And I only took a few drops, when I used to be on 20 drops per day!
It just startled me enough that I won't be mixing them again, not for my body.
