Had first Igenex lab drawn Monday so no official diagnosis yet. Majority of symptoms on lyme checklist since 9/09. Anyway, something new has happened two times so far this year. Let me preface this by saying I have never had an allergic reaction to any kind of food or anything airborne. Last night we went to an Indian restaurant, my first experience. I only had a couple of bites of some potatoes that were well seasoned and excellent. A couple of minutes later I had an "altered" feeling in my head and then my heart started racing. My tongue felt big and I had difficulty swallowing. I was shaking all over. Heart subsided but left shaking, particularly lower body. We stayed as I felt this was subsiding. I did not eat anything else. I had another wave come over me, not as bad, and then a third, even less. I decided it would be best to leave. On the ride home my tongue and swallowing were back to normal. I took a Benadryl when I arrived home just to be safe. I had a similar episode while dining at the end of Jan. If anyone has ever dines at Jasmine's at the Bellagio in Vegas, I had a very simple shrimp dish that was lightly brushed with a mustard sauce and topped with walnuts. Halfway in the feeling came over me and my heart started racing. It subsided but left me very shaky. I did not have the tongue or swallowing issues with that episode. I was looking at my plate thinking was it the shrimp? is there msg in this dish (doubtful but don't know for certain)? was it walnuts? I have had all the above, with the exception of the Indian food, before without incident. Has anyone every had a new out of the blue reaction to foods?

The short answer...yes.

One of the things my allergist told me(an this has nothing to do with Lyme) is that you can have a sensitivity to something and not react until the exposure reaches the point where your body cries *uncle*. I have had that experience. I am 'allergic/sensitive' to about 25 different foods(amongst other things) and one of them is coconut. I have eaten/drank coconut despite this because I love it.

Not anymore.

2 weeks ago I had some coconut milk in a smoothie and had a reaction like you are describing, along with vomitting. Lots of benadryl later I was fine...but now I know no more coconut. [Frown]

I would definitely mention it ot your Dr...you may want to carry an epi pen and get tested for food allergies...you can get skin tested and blood tests(I would, and did, do both)

The reaction I had last night I would say was due to a reaction to some kind of seasoning and not a reaction to potatoes. The first time this happened while eating the shrimp dish? I have no clue. I have since eaten shrimp and walnuts with no issues. The event last night was scarier than the first. I had no issues with breathing with either episode, thank goodness, but last night with the tongue and the swallowing issues...unpleasant. I have never had a seizure but felt I could have been on the verge of one.
