Yes, the infection can lay dormant for weeks, months, or even years before any symptoms become obvious.

If you have seen the tick bite, it's much easier to pinpoint the date of infection. At 6 weeks you would be considered stage 2, early disseminated lyme..
Lyme disease spirochetes disseminate from the site of the tick bite by cutaneous, lymphatic and blood borne routes. The signs of early 'disseminated' infection can occur within days to weeks. Symptoms may also slowly reveal themselves over a long period of time with patients showing up at their doctors with vague, varied symptoms and no knowledge of a tick bite nor rash.

I think most people know. I am sure there are few who have had dormant Lyme and then something happens to trigger all hell breaking loose but most with CL have been sick in one way or another for a loooooong time. Hubby has said I have never been *well* in all the years he has known me, and has gotten progressively worse in the last 5 years or so. I was dx'd about 5 yrs ago so makes sense...prior to that no one knew what was wrong, just that I wasn't well. I think it took a series of car accidents to really trigger the disease to come on full force. I have likey had Lyme since the early 90's...
