So, Last week I got a new perscription of Doxy filled. I have been on Doxy for a month and a half.

On Monday and Tuesday I started to break out into hives nothing serious. Then Weds and Thursday and Friday BAM all over.

Went to my LLMD, he believed it was a Doxy allergey he said it looked like a drug rash, I mean I was covered. He took me off abx immediately. He also gave be a script for a strong antihistamine, and prednisone he said its a very very small dose and he HATES to do it. but i will only be on it for 5 days and i need to get these hives under control. He thinks that the doxy manufactor changed an ingrediant in the formula, even though I called and they said no.

He still thinks I should go to an allergist and get allergy tested from doxy...he said it coulda been a herx....but was almost postive it was a drug rash.

What are your thoughts?

I am so nervous about the steriods

Did you try taking Benadryl? I would have started with that. Then if I wasn't seeing improvement, I would have gone on the other antihistamine. The prednisone I wouldn't use unless I wasn't improving.

I had a bad reaction to Contrast dye used in CT scans, and the rash stayed with me for 2 weeks, I used Benadryl to help with it.

The thing is that it can be hard to tell a herx from an allergy. I had a bad case of hives from one drug and never did really know which one it was. Or it could even have been serum sickness, as it was more than just the rash. Spent two days in bed with this.

But my drug was not as commonly prescribed for lyme as doxy. So, maybe this is an argument for seeing what the allergist has to say. You would want to know if you are allergic to the -cycline drugs for sure.

My initial lyme rash looked like hives, not a bullseye. This isn't me but mine looked like the large picture on this page. The rash came and went for about a year. That was followed by a decade of being perfectly fine before I got sick.

Sounds like it was an allergy for you, but I guess it could have been a herx.

Lovely. Well, I hope they get it figured out. My doc has me on natural thyroid called RLC. He says synthroid and armour are crap. For whatever that's worth.

I take synthroid. I used to be on armour and it didn't do a thing for me. Synthroid makes me feel better, but I wonder why your doctor said it's "crap". I've heard it doesn't cover all the bases, but I'm confused. Why do most endocrinologists insist that synthroid is the only way to go?

I don't really know. I think he just prefers "real" thyroid. I think they use pig thyroid or something. He said armour used to be good but their formula got changed and he doesn't like it anymore. It's been awhile since I talked to him about it, but I seem to remember him saying it's hard to regulate and docs are constantly having to play with dosage, etc. I'm sure if it's working good for you, then it's fine. I know it's what most people are on. I only threw that comment out there in case tricia hadn't thought about trying a different formual. It sounds like she's on it though.
