Been taking Zith, Mepron and Omnicef 2x day for 5 weeks now. Before any meds was getting on and off feeling in the the tongue, maybe once a month. Now it's been a week and my mouth is very unsettled. The tongue seems enlarged, I have become extremely anxious, my teeth chatter and I have this lump I can sometimes feel when swallowing. I bit down on my tongue sleeping(when I can) a couple of nights ago. I don't have any issues swallowing, but I can feel the lump like there is a piece of wood in there on every 5th swallow.
Is this anxiety, lyme, or anxiety related to lyme? It's been so bad it's driving me insane and OCD!

I get issues like that every so often, and I seriously feel like I'm going to smother/choke to death or something. No trouble swallowing or breathing despite feeling like I swallowed a bowling ball.
Sometimes I take a Benadryl (since I can't handle ANY anxiety meds), and that does take the edge off, although it doesn't completely cure it.

My sister has had this feeling of a lump when swallowing recently and it does seem to be a companion with anxiety.
She has had tonsil stones removed and still feels it.
she even had a CAT scan and it showed nothing. Have no way to know if it is what you are dealing with but
she has strong anxiety issues and it can set off panic attacks at the worst.
She recovered from lyme ten years ago but occasionally has to deal with the aftereffects of both lyme and treatment.
So if more folks can unravel this mystery it will help.

My take on this: It is Lyme and/or coinfections which have damaged nerves controlling swallowing and chewing.
The "lump" you feel may actually be a numb spot that is perceived as a lump when you swallow.
I go through periods where I am CONSTANTLY biting my tongue while chewing - so friggin' painful and frustrating. I know there is nerve damage which is causing this.
I had swallowing problems about 15 years ago, food would get caught half way down my throat. Lasted a few weeks during a stressful period in my life. When the stress went away, the swallowing problem disappeared.
As with any Lyme symptom, stress will bring out symptoms, or exacerbate existing ones. If your teeth are actually chattering from stress (I have had that), you have definitely crossed the "tipping point" where these symptoms will manifest themselves.
Don't torture yourself. I, myself, found PAXIL a miracle-drug for me. Felt normal for the first time in my life. Having never felt "normal", without debilitating anxiety, was exhilarating when I first experienced it. I was driving to work at a stressful job, had been on Paxil a couple of weeks, and I suddenly realized I was not anxious, was not sighing and hyperventilating, had no anxiety, yet I was alert and not sedated. Wonderful feeling. Of course
I didn't know at the time that all my psych issues were due to undiagnosed Lyme. If and when I get rid of these evil spirochetes, perhaps I'll be ready to wean off the Paxil.

I used to have these symptoms, esp the swollen tongue, which caused me to bite my tongue and the chattering teeth. The good news is that they've gone away after treatment. I don't recall if it went away from Lyme or Babesia treatment, although I think it was the Lyme treatment, but that's one thing I don't have to deal with anymore.
The chattering teeth continues to reappear once in a while, but not as bad as it had been.
I think you're experiencing a herx. Just my opinion. I'm not an MD.

When my tongue swells, it is usually due to a mild allergic reaction to something I ate. Perhaps an allergist could shed some light on some of this for those of you who are experiencing this symptom?
The "lump" sensation in the throat may or may not accompany the swollen tongue thing for me...so I think it can be a separate issue. I agree with the person who posted that this may be due to a numb spot from a damaged swallowing nerve (vegas nerve) - I think both Lyme and Bartonella can do this.
