can lyme cause obstructive sleep apnea? was diagnosed, told that i stopped breathing just a few times during the night and was told it was mild apnea. i was diagnosed with this before I had lyme when they were trying to figure out why i was so fatigued. i keep taking the mask off in my sleep though so i can tell if the apnea is getting better, or if this is the reason why im so tired anyways. right now im sleeping 14-16 hrs per day

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, also mild, 8 years before my Lyme diagnosis.

I was told it was obstructive, but I think it is related to my brain, which would make it more central.

It took many weeks for me to be able to keep my mask on all night.

My sleep problem was the opposite. I had terrible insomnia. I feel the CPAP is crucial to my overall health, and the apnea is definitely related to my Lyme and brain inflammation.

Babesia flares make my apnea much worse.

Obstructive sleep apnea is usually due to weight and/or structure of the throat. Usually if you lose weight it gets better. You can also have surgery to open up your throat.

It takes a long time to get used to cpap.

My "sleep apnea" was ehrlichia, lyme & babesia. The fatigue goes away with treatment.

Fatigue from true osa does not go away with lyme an.d co treatment. The fatigue from not sleeping properly and from stopping breathing only goes away if you resolve the sleep problems. Bacteria is not the culprit. Maybe if your apnea is from malfunction from the brain, but i am not familliar with thst type

Chlamydia Pneumonie can cause Sleep Apnea. It is one of the co-infections not related to Lyme.

Yes - I know someone with apnea & he doesn't have Lyme. He's not overweight, either.

The operations are painful & not effective in many cases. It's a difficult problem.

I read a form of green tea ca be helpful for the fatigue from waking up & not getting enough air during the night.

One of my daughters early symptoms. Not sure if it was from the Lyme or Babs. It's one of the items which has gone away so I think it was a Babs symptom (but this is just a guess).

I am normal weight, and often underweight. My apnea is related to infection.

Yes, it often goes away with treatment.

True obstructive sleep apnea needs to be managed with CPAP.

My pulmonologist dx my with sleep apnea and was amazed that when I lost weight my apnea actually got WORSE! Of course this was before I was dx with the Lyme. Thankfully now that I am seeing Dr. L she seems to think that the Lyme and the Babs could be playing a PART in my apnea and is planning on treating me for both. Just have to see if insurance will cover all meds.
