Meyer lemons are thought to be a blend between regular lemons and mandarine or regular oranges.
I don't know much more than that about them...

Penguin Girl,
In herbalism, the sour or bitter flavor is what is said to produce bile in the liver. It works by interacting with your taste buds and the nervous system's response to the taste.
That said, I wouldn't hesitate to use the meyers. We have a tree, and we love them! The taste is delicious, eh?
I would think the "Conventional" (organically-grown, important for detox especially!) lemons would produce more bile, and thus give you a stronger detox response, but I still think both lemons will work.
Actually it's more a digestive thing than a detox response, but the two work hand and glove anyway. Bile breaks down fats and cholesterol, and aids digestion over-all. But digestion is key to detoxing because after all, if things are properly digested then there is less likelihood of putrefaction going on. To stimulate digestion with digestive bitters/sours does help detoxification, in that sense. The vitamin C can help too, boosts liver secretions other than bile that do aid with detox, directly. I would'nt call lemon water as strong a detoxifier as some other things such as milk thistle combined with yellow dock, burdock, dandelion and artichoke leaf... but it's still a help. (Sometimes less is more, it all depends on the situation).
Use the inner rind of the peel, this is high in quercitin and other bioflavonoids that have cleansing, anti-oxidant, detox, and capillary-strengthening benefits. (You'd need a concentrated vitamin source especially for the latter, but small dosages can't hurt you either).
If you can tolerate the alchohol, one product I really like for detox is by GAIA Herbs called Milk Thistle Yellow Dock. You could buy it at www.iherb.com at discount.
Best wishes, CI

Thanks, CI.
Yes meyers tastes so good. No wonder many restaurants use them for desserts, haha.
Anyway I checked out the gaia. I am afraid of the 40-55% alcohol content - is there a way to have it evaporate if I put it in some warm water for a few min? I am not taking Flagyl now but I am afraid of yeast? Or is there no consequences for that.
Also do you start with a few drops. It seems like the suggested serving of 30-40 drops 3-4 time a day is a bit much. I don't think it can cause herxing but I have to see if I tolerate this supplement too. I have been taking a very low quality milk thistle pill (almost done with the bottle so want to get the good kind now) so I know I can tolerate milk thistle but didn't know if the stronger high quality ones would affect one differently. Hopefully not.
Anyway I think I will continue to do some lemon water throughout the day as I drink a lot of water as it is..
Maybe I should try this one if I am afraid of the alcohol content?

Hi Penguingirl GAIA is a very good brand with excellent quality organic herbs and they check them for heavy metals.
This is glycerin based and if you tolerate it, yes this is a very good product.
There is one milk thistle product that I like even better however. It is a powdered extract, so there are zero allergens....no alchohol, glycerin, binders, fillers, etc just the dried herbal extract in capsules, concentrated 72X!!!
It's by Paradise Herbs, you could look for it here at discount for almost the same/similar price as the tincture you linked by GAIA www.iherb.com
But either product will be fine.
The good thing with the GAIA product is that if you are concerned about dosage, then you can creep it up more gradually and have more control.
As for the GAIA Milk Thistle Yellow Dock contributing to herxing, yes it is possible that it could. The ingredient oregon grape root contains an alkaloid called berberine (same as in goldenseal and andrographis) that is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and it may very well be anti-spirochetal. It's used in one of the herbal products my LLMD recommended for bartonella which I am using. I love it fyi.
If you are interested the product is called Bar 1 by Healthy Directions but the company just changed names and I can't remember their name now. Sorry about that.
Best wishes, CI

Wow pretty good price for the Paradise Herbs! Since it is more potent, do you just need to take one pill a day?
Maybe I will get one Paradise Herbs bottle and one GAIA yellow dock to start and see what works best.
