I am at the 6 month mark for babs treatment. feeling so much better but still have slight air hunger.
I can only describe it as involuntary deep breaths, like a dog sighing.as it is laying down.
Can you all please chime in and tell me what you would describe it as?

Air hunger for me is one of the Hardest things to put into words.

but it does invlove taking deep breaths a lot for no aparent reason.

I also at times feel like my breathing goes out of rythum kinda like when you have a heart flutter... but more like a respiratory flutter

like I said air hunger for me is really hard to put into words

but like you said to take a deep breath way too many times for no apparent reason that was my first and main sign of air hunger

I don't know what I have, but I have something I've never seen another person ever experience. I yawn hundreds of time a day and never catch my full breath when yawning. It's terrible. I've never in my life in public seen someone yawn like me. It ruins my life. [Frown]

Today I had this bad along with an inability to take a full breath. it felt like I was being suffocated. A Zyrtec helped immensely within an hour. Interesting.

It is MUCH worse in the daytime than at night. Another strange twist.

It felt like I could not take a deep enough draw for air to give the the relief of a full breath of air. Sometimes it would almost slide into panic cause I couldn't get a full refreshing breath. Stopping and trying to breathe slowly helped.
Sometimes it would hit when I was going upstairs, I sounded much more out of shape than I am.

Hope this helps

Mine actually presents in several different ways, I have no idea what makes the difference but something does. So first of all, all my life I have done the big deep heavy sighing. Like just grabbing that big breath of air, non-intentionally.

But then it got worse to where I was gasping for breath, every couple of minutes. It is a sharp, deep gasp that really hurts my lungs actually. This usually only lasts about week or 2 at a time.

Then I've started having this thing where it feels like my body isn't breathing on its own. I have to THINK about breathing, and it feels like such a huge chore!

I have breath through my mouth all the time, rarely can I get enough oxygen by breathing through my nose. Its like my nose is plugged, only it isn't!

But I always have the big deep sighing, all the time, just varying degrees of severity.

This is such a great question!! I love hearing what others experience, especially when it validates my symptoms. Helps not to feel so crazy! [Wink]

Oh my word!! I get the yawning too!! It is so unsatisfying!! I call it a non-productive yawn. And they usually aren't complete like normal yawns.

I also have the coughing. Another thing I call non-productive. Its just more of a need to breath, not so much cough.

What I want to know - can this be caused by Lyme? I have air hunger and I don't think I have babesia, since I have no other symptoms that would suggest it.

Robin. Air hunger is my only babesia symptom as well., I just started treating it. My LLMD said you can have just one symptom of something.

--------------------
First Symptom 9/09
Multiple docs, negative Labcorp test
LLMD: 1/10
Positive Igenex/CDC test
Treatment 2/10
2/10-8/10 Amox, ceftin, zith, flagyl
Currently: Bicillin, Minocycline, still dealing with severe breathing issues

Yes, great info on this. Mine is more not being able to get a deep breath. Happens more when reclining. I have to rise sometimes and breath deep in order to feel better.

I do have sinusitis periodically, runny nose lots and I breath thru my mouth because nose feels blocked too!

Yawning is also too embarassing. Seems worse if I go out anywhere. It's nuts.

Mine is similar to what everyone else posted. I had a lung function test and it showed up as bronchospasm. LLMD says Babesia or inflammation in the cells from the Lyme/Babs

Could you just have air hunger from being out of shape? I ask because I don't have any other symptoms of Babs, but I do get the feeling of air hunger. Its like I can't get a satisfying breath.

I have read that persistant yawning is a sign of anxiety. So I wonder if anxiety could be a cause of air hunger.

And being out of shape physically, like the lungs not being used for a very long time. Not taking deep breaths for months or years, couldn't that cause a breathing issue?

You can also have air hunger (feeling like you can't get enough oxygen) if you have a trigger point in your chest. Sometimes working out trigger points in my chest will give me some relief.
