i'm having trouble with my stomach again. every time i eat i have pain through to my back. no gallbladder. don't know if it's stomach something or other or the dang pancreas.

sooo, i'm looking into taking digestive enzymes. one gastro gave me a prescrip for pancrease and i took for years and had no problem. now i can't find a doc who will prescribe it.

is there anything over the counter that i could take? what are you taking??

Hi Randibear

I don't recall the name of the product but if you google it...

Rainbow Light makes a good full-spectrum digestive enzyme product which includes marshmallow root.

I think this is a good idea especially alongside abx therapy. The marshmallow root would be very soothing to the gut lining and protective from some of the damaging impacts from abx therapy.

If you suspect the pancrease is involved, then your blood sugar is bound to be high.

Herbs which stimulate pancreatic juices:

Bitter melon
Fenugreek
Milk thistle to some extent and would be soothing to the pancreas
Cinnamon helps high blood sugar to some extent
Marshmallow root does not affect blood sugar per se but would be soothing to the pancreatic linings
Chromium picolinate or GTF Chromium is helpful to insulin receptivity mechanism in the cells

Best to find a formula which combines them all for the pancreas. Herbs work better in clusters than solo. A product called GlucoReg looks well-formulated to me. You could search on www.iherb.com

Best wishes, CI

I don't have a gallbladder either. Nausea, cramping, bloating had been a long time issue for me.

For the most part these issues have gone away.

The supplements I take for this are

endefen from metagenics
intestine targeted enzyme from glnd
tre-en-en from glnd
beta-gest from glnd

Also going gluten and dairy free helped me a lot too.

I take the following to help my stomach/digestion:

Probiotics - since I'm sensitive to the sulfites given off as a byproduct of probiotic activity, I take only a low dose acidophilus/bifidus supplement.

Acid Soothe, made by Enzymedica (good for digesting carbohydrates & fats - safe for people with stomach ulcers).

And a vegetarian fat/protein digestive enzyme product made by a network marketing company.

I don't handle HCl or non-vegetarian enzyme products (such as ox bile, or pancreatin) well at all, so I stick with vegetarian digestive enzymes.

There are lots of digestive enzymes on the market. One good brand is Nature's Plus. Some of enzyme products also contain hydrocloric acid, which you may or may not need.

Good websites to buy from are Vitacost (they have many brands of enzymes encluding their own) and iherb.

No gallbladder here either.....

My favorites are Natural Tropical Papaya by Country Life - they are chewable enzymes and I chew 4 after every meal. Even snacks.

Also Plant Enzymes by NOW Brand. One after lunch and dinner.

I have bought the Papaya enzymes at Vitamin Shoppe and Sprouts.

The Plant Enzymes I have bought at Market Street.

I cannot take any sort of animal based enzyme at all.

My son even takes the chewable papaya ones.

I've been using Michal Murray's product for over a year now and like it.
