Niaspan is another option. Just be aware of flushing issues with it.

Red yeast rice is another, but it's just a natural (baby-dose) statin, so in theory it could still cause muscle problems. But it's less likely than regular statins to be a problem.

And fish oil may help a little, at least with triglycerides. But I wouldn't take too much, both due to possible immune suppression and the fact that high dose fish oil can actually raise LDL in some people.

In my opinion, Statins are dangerous. They deplete the body's store of Co-Q10. Muscles (including the heart) can't function correctly without Co-Q10. I also think they damage the liver. And cholesterol is needed by the body to make white blood cells. People with very low cholesterol have poorer immunity to diseases (from research, not just me saying this).

Total cholesterol is a meaningless number without knowing what the VLDL, LDL, & HDL numbers are... High HDL is not nearly as bad as high VLDL.

If I were you, I'd stick with the doctor who is willing to work with you whether or not you are on statins. And you might want to ask for the full lipid panel instead of just total cholesterol.

Take care,

quick answer to one of your q's: Bb utilizes the cholesterol pathway.

i do have full panel-but it was done none fasting

i am doing fasting tomorrow

they told me ratio was high but did not give me #s

total was 350...tri was 250

they didn't tell me the rest---it is in the mail to me

thnak you all for your time
