Hello,

I contracted Borreliosis in spring 2011 and was treated with 100 mg doxycycline once per day for 30 days. The bullseye is gone, and normally I don't notice anything in the area where the tick bit me.

However, on 5 or 6 occasions after I completed the antibiotics, and this was when I've had to deal with more than usual stress, or if my immune system was at work battling for example a common cold, I've experienced a swelling right where I was bitten and it appears suddenly out of nowhere. I notice it because it itches a little. Strangely, the swelling and itching goes away again fairly quickly. Typically after somewhere between 15-30 minutes.

The last time it happened was today and I decided to snap a couple pictures of what it looks like. Picture 1 below is what it looks like right when it happens. Picture two is what it looks like 30 minutes later when the itching and swelling is gone:

This swelling and itching has me a little concerned - it doesn't seem normal and the swelling is getting bigger everytime it happens. Today I measured the diameter of the swollen area and it's just under half an inch. Also, I noticed that after the swelling goes down, the tissue below is a little hard to the touch, kind of like a like a lump. I have mentioned this phenomenon to my doctor, but his only comment was, "that's not supposed to happen". I'm going to set up a new appointment, though, and this time I'm going to email him the pictures from today.

Has anyone else in here experienced the same thing? Does anyone have an idea what is going on? Am I still infected with borrelia? Is it a co-infection? I should mention that I live in Sweden and if anyone happen to know a borrelia and/or Lyme expert here I can contact please let me know.

Thank you.

You have thus far been grossly undertreated. I SERIOUSLY doubt you have beaten Lyme. That looks like a bullseye to me.. it's just "faded."

For me, I would want to be given 200 mg of doxy TWICE a day for 6-8 wks. Then, MAYBE, I'd be free of Lyme.

you should be tested for coinfections just in case

I'll send you what I have for Europe.

Welcome to LymeNet!

Sorry to see you are having these concerns.

I am not sure I "buy" this theory, but here is a report of someone developing an allergy to red meat after a tick bite (although it appears they ate shellfish too).

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/10/19/AR2009101902874.html

Some allergies do not react as violently as this did, but could your consumption of red meat coincide with the swelling?

My suggestion is to continue to do what you are doing and be your own advocate. You may need to be treated one more time and/or checked for coinfections.

Follow your gut feeling and don't give up!

Good luck!
