I think depression is a side effect not of the disease itself, but of the search for a diagnosis.
Many doctors have said their good byes without truly believing what I was saying.
Years of this plus fatigue and inability to accomplish what I would have liked to has led to really low self esteem.
How do you deal with this? How do you find the right person to talk to?

We get it and we understand. Depression is part of the disease. The infections themselves cause mental and emotional problems. Looking for a cure is depressing. Being misdiagnosed, brushed off, dismissed and even scoffed at is depressing.
It is really hard to deal with. If there is a lyme support group in your area you might be able to meet face to face with someone. I only have online support but it keeps me going. My family is also supportive and understanding.

I agree with Nefferdun and think that my depression was cured by finding the right LLMD who prescribed effective antibiotics (anyone with bugs in their brains is naturally going to have anxiety and depression - the bugs have to go). Other treatments might be just as effective - Teasel, Cat's Claw or Salt/C - or maybe a combination - I don't know. Getting vitamin D therapy as well as vitamin B12 helped me too.
