I've read that Lyme can cause Stomach distention..

Which abx's help with Lyme stomach distention...if any?

currently daughter is on azithro and minocycline but stomach distention has NOT improved.

Doing gluten free diet which has improved her stomach pains...but distention has me stumped??

taking vsl3 DS daily and limiting dairy

I'm sorry she's experiencing this, is it painful? I'm not familiar with this one, unless by distention you mean bloating?

Just throwing out some thoughts here: could it be related to leaky gut syndrome? When we take antibiotics it can lead to leaky gut.

Does your daughter take probiotics while on the ABX? It is best to take them 30 minutes before a meal, on an empty stomach. And also to take them at a different time than the ABX. So, for example: probiotics 30 min. before meal. ABX after the meal (I can't remember how long after. I waited one hour.)

Hope other folks have some ideas. Best wishes to you and your daughter.

yea I ve been experiencing the same problem, feels like gas bloating and seems to get worse after taking my ABX. Have tried to clean up my diet and take plenty of probiotics, still not much relief.

What exactly is leaky gut ?

Bloating and distension is almost always yeast. My links are on my other computer. Let me know if you need them.

(celiacs also have distended bellies)

Lyme paralyzes the abdominal muscles so they cannot hold the guts in, leading to distention...so this may or may not be yeast.

She had bloating and distention before treating lyme with abx...

Yeast would only occur with long term abx?? so, it could be just Lyme related??

Ms Tutu is our yeast expert. Yes, heavy doses and mega bunch of things are needed to keep yeast at bay while doing long term abx.

I bet all those hundreds of thousands or millions of teenagers that took abx for acne are now miserable adults with yeast symptoms galore and not a clue from their docs as too what there issues are about???????????

Many of us have had many posts about our expanded waistlines over the years. Many different ideas as to the causes.

My waistline shrunk after I stopped doing abx long term and went alternative. It took months and months of heavy duty detox protocols to shrink my waist.

Then out of nowhere one morning I woke up and all my shorts wouldn't fit around my waist. I had done some abx short term like levaquin and rifampin to treat bart sx.

Yes, I did tons of probiotics too and other things but IMO it wasn't the yeast bug it was the bad bug.

New bite, maybe? Abx affects the immune system with the very large majority of it in the stomach/GI track.

So it might just be a defensive mechanism for immune system when you throw abx in to do it's fighting.

But Tutu is pretty sharp and it could be yeast also. Who knows, but do search on this site and use the keyword tummy, waistline, weight gain and see older posts.

Yes, Lyme by itself can do this.

I had yeast BEFORE beginning long term abx...but I had had many rounds of abx over the years with no probiotics. I also took birth control pills .. that is another cause of yeast. Many different meds can cause it .. or a suppressed immune system.

My immune system was just about shot when I was finally diagnosed.

I read that parasites cause distention.

I second that it could be parasites. My daughters belly flattened considerably after starting tindimax and we assume it killed some sort of parasite. The first few weekends of the tindimax were rough on her with GI upset which presented as extreme hunger.

I of course agree that it could be parasites. Google parasite symptoms and do a search on here by typing parasites into search bar.

I have the extreme distension at present myself: 7 weeks ago my stomach distended with pain, following periods of queasy 'noisy' nausea and it hasn't gone in since!

I have only just had the all clear after colonoscopy and CT Stomach scan, so have been wondering about SIBO [Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth]: I may have some candida too, but am very familiar with how candida affects me and am sure that this is more complex.

Have you looked into SIBO?

If you get treated for SIBO .. make sure they KNOW for sure that you have it. I was treated for SUPPOSED SIBO and it sent me over the edge with my candida. That was 9 months ago and I am still battling the candida.

(I THINK I am now getting the upper hand on it.)

I have this. Seems like Bell's Palsy of the gut. Plus, I have the big hernia (forgot the technical word for it) that runs in the middle of my gut. Doesn't hurt, but when I sit up you can see in the middle of my gut (about five inches long) like a big curve, for lack of better word.

Sometimes it feels like I'm carrying a bowling ball around inside of me on the left side. Tons of test done, nothing found. Doctor said what I have is typical and as long as there's no pain then nothing to do about it. Thankfully it's not painful. But it's not pleasant to have my gut stick out like a beer belly (no, I don't drink beer). [Smile]

Been dx with IBS. In other words, the doctor has no clue. So, let's call the dx what it is--BS without the I. [Smile]

Happy Memorial Day everyone!

Gary

SIBO = small intestine bacterial overgrowth

( i think )

so my ignorant GI dr (who does not believe in intestinal yeast) helped me kill out ALL bacteria in my gut. Nice move, doc.

Hi Gary,

I share your dislike of the appearance of the false beer belly! Also think I know that bowling ball sensation.

Much of the time my distension DOES involve pain and it certainly impacts badly on my levels of malaise and fatigue [that were not good in the first place!].

I agree too about your comments re. the IBS diagnosis: just how many catch-all, 'Bermuda Triangle' diagnoses are there, do you think?

Best Wishes,

Carry

ukcarry,

To clarify, I do have left side abdominal pain almost daily to some extent or another. When I said it was "not painful" I was referring to the "hernia" I have.

Thankfully the hernia itself is not painful, but whatever is going on on the left side, yeah, it's painful. When it's not painful it's pretty uncomfortable, especially when my stomach feels like I'm carrying a bowling ball around on the left side.

Right now I'm doing some parasite cleansing, taking chlorella and coffee enemas. It does seem to be helping me. Hopefully in time it will get better. Right now with the toxins moving around a bit I've had more pain and discomfort, but mostly in my back area now.

Had to go to ER yesterday as it felt as if I had a kidney stone. Of course, nothing was found but doctor suspects the stone is hiding someplace in there. Will be seeing my urologist this week to see what's going on.

We just gotta keep fighting the good fight not lose hope. Eventually we're gonna get better! We've got to!

Gary

Thank you, Gary, for explaining.

Have you ever tried chanca piedra for the suspected kidney stone? Hope the urologist can be of help,

Best Wishes,

Carry
