Thanks for sharing. My dd8 actually has a lot of GI issues including problems with her esophagus, chronic constipation & encopresis. We are looking into a Lyme dx for her. So this article was very informative for me!!

I read this article 18 months ago when my son's stomach stopped working after a virus. The cardiologist diagnosed him with gastroparesis and he did a drug called mestinon for myasthenis gravis and it worked until proper Lyme diagnosis and treatment. Things are working fine now!

She is a psychiatrist, not a lyme doctor.
But, she had lyme and it really affected her gastro-intestinal tract. So, she knows a lot about it.

Pretty much fact that Lyme can paralyze the gut if you ask me.

There is proof. There is research on tissue samples taken from patients with Gastroparesis and 2 of the 5 were positive for Lyme. After treatment for Lyme, the patients' Gastroparesis went away.
H. Pande, B.E. Lacy and M.D. Crowell. "CASE REPORT: Inflammatory Causes of Gastroparesis: Report of Five Cases." Digestive Diseases and Sciences. Volume 47, Number 12, 2664-2668, DOI: 10.1023/A:1021036601462 -- http://www.springerlink.com/content/q59068h56t765001/
"People may ask what does Lyme disease have to do with digestive diseases?
After seeing a fairly large cluster of female patients without diabetes presenting with symptoms of nausea and vomiting several years ago, all of whom turned out out have gastroparesis, a condition where there is considerable delay in gastric emptying, I suspected an infectious agent. I came across an article by Brian Lacy MD who was then at Johns Hopkins University Marvin S.Schuster Center for Gastrointestinal Motility entitled" Inflammatory Gastropathy" which descrided 5 patient with proven gastroparesis, 3 of whom developed the condition shortly after vaccination and 2 who had Lyme disease. None of my eight patient had been recently vaccinated but since we lived in an area where Lyme disease is endemic and deer hunting is considered a right of passage, I tested all eight for chronic Lyme, and all 8 were positiveby ILADS criteria. After subsequent antibiotics which had been preceded by prokinetics such as Reglan and in several cases, even total parental nutrition, all improved." -- http://www.revolutionhealth.com/blogs/nothing/what-does-lyme-diseas-4297
Lyme is also known to cause difficulty swallowing and IBS-like symptoms. I live daily with messed up gut motility from Lyme. My entire GI tract is affected.

Although Dr. S is a psychiatrist, she does treat Lyme as far as I know. She is extremely LL, as you can see.
