I will be spending some time this month at high altitude (around 8,000 ft.). I always feel worse at higher altitude. Unfortunately, this time I will have to be fairly active right away. Does anyone have any recommendations of meds, herbs, or supplements that they've used successfully to help with the transition to high altitude and combat altitude sickness?
Many thanks!

You could talk with your doctor about trying Diamox. It is used to help prevent altitude sickness when you are not able to take the time to acclimate.
I have taken Diamox in the past and it seemed to help. I used it when traveling to an area >9,500ft. I did have shortness of breath and fatigue with exertion but it was not severe enough to interfere with my activity. I did not experience any side effects from the drug itself.

You need a lot more red blood cells at high altitudes. If you have babesia, which destroys your red blood cells, you are going to be extremely tired and breathless. Maybe you could build yourself up with brisk walking before you go.
Take it easy.
