Believe me I KNOW sinus infections and I have one that came out of nowhere (no cold preceding it).
Is doxy typically given for sinus infections? Can I take other abx while on doxy. I feel bad and I can't breathe/sleep. What can you do about it without stopping your course of doxy?
I have had many sinus infections, polyps, and two sinus surgeries and have never been given doxy so I assume that (a) it is too strong for sinus infections or (b) it is not effective to treat them.
Just wondering if you can double up on abx for a sinus infection while already on doxy.
Thanks

A 1999 study published in the Mayo Clinic states that most patients diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis have allergic fungal sinusitis.
The study found 96% of the subjects with chronic rhinosinusitis to have a fungus in cultures of their nasal secretions.
As long as fungi remain, so will the irritation.
Antibiotics contain fungi! Use an anti-fungal!
Diflucan, Nystatin, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Caprylic acid, coconut oil, garlic, olive leaf extract... these are the ones we are using.

Are these prescriptions or over the counter? (Diflucan and Nystatin)
Thanks...makes sense. Probably caused by the 2 weeks of doxy.
Argggggggg. This is just not easy is it?

Ditto on the Anti-fungals (Diflucan in particular). Both Diflucan and Nystatin are prescription.
Most ENT's aren't aware of the funal connection. My ENT and Allergiest were blown away when my LLMD put me on Diflucan for other obvious fungal issues and my years long 'chronic' sinusitis cleared up magically in a month. They too threatened with sinus surgery before this, and subsequently released me from their care afterward, saying I had no issues.
The doxy most likely made you more prone to fungal issues.
You could, however, really have a bacterial sinus infection, in which case you'd need something like Levaquin. Not sure if you can take it at the same time as doxy - you should let your LLMD know asap and see what they suggest.
Be sure you are taking loads of acidophillus and keep your diet clean of carbs and sugars. A nasal spray twice a day like Xlear, (that contains xylitol) will help you breathe a bit better and also prevent bacteria, fungi and allergans from sticking to your sinus cavity.

Yes, you can go on other antibiotics for a sinus infection while on Doxy. My dd suffers with chronic sinusitis due to Lyme. One thing that helps a lot to prevent a sinus infection is to use a Netipot with saline in it to rinse the sinuses regularly, (twice a day when she's having issues) as well as using Musinex help control the mucous. Doing these things can prevent the a sinus infection.

I called the doc, and they wanted me to come in @ noon yesterday, but that was at 11:45 yesterday and it takes an hour to get there!
Next avail appt was next Thursday. Ugh. Hopefully there will be a cancellation. Don't want to call my reg GP because I want this to be all treated by the same doctor.
I also asked if 200 mg is enough and I will speak with her about upping the dosage next time.
I felt so hopeful for the first 7 days or so but it is back to the same old stuff.
