I tested positive for mycoplasma pneumonae on an IGG and IGM test, showing I had IGG (past infection). My doctor says that means that I dont have it now. Im jsut wondering how reliable this test is and if he is correct?

Are you showing positive on the IGM as well?
How high are your titers?
Most people will show positive for IGG indicating a past infection - it depends on how high your titers are.

Once you have it, with high titre levels, it's very very difficult to eliminate. Like with most gram negatives, your best hope is to remove most of the germ load, so you can feel better and resume with your life...

i just show pos. on IGG and there are no titers, just either IGG or IGM. I had test done at Labcorp

There are several websites mentioning mycoplasma in connection to ME, chronic fatigue, etc, look it up.
But the treatment is long-term doxy and other typical lyme meds. Note the web pages emphasize that long-terme treament may be needed if you had it a long time.

I 've been in a bad relapse the past 6 weeks. My LLMD determined it was myco pneu. as my IGG titers went way up. (tested from Quest)
I read that Dr. Nicolson (immed) said if the titers go up, that the germs are being released into your system. Mycoplasma is the "chronic fatigue germ" per Dr. B.
Doxycycline did not work for me this time as I built up a resistance from long term use for lyme. I'm on azithromycin. I'm slowly improving.

Just an update: Recent tests now show that my myco pneu. is retreating with the zith, but my Lyme is reactivated. I back on cefuroxime axetel and alternating with the zith.
No wonder I feel so cruddy.

Diagnosis for Mycoplasma pneumoniae: -PCR/nucleic acid probes -ELISA and immunofluorescence sensitive and specific (Mulberry shaped colonies on sterol- containing media) -Positive cold agglutinins (autoantibody to red blood cells) test is nonspecific and is positive in only 65 percent of cases
what do you mean you have this 'cause it causes walking pneumonia and is very common in dorms?
treatment is Erythromycin, azithromycin, clarithromycin, NO cephalosporins or penicillins (since organism lacks cell wall)

IGG and IGM tests cross react between mycoplasma species.
I had a positive IGG for mycoplasma pneumoniae only to end up with a negative PCR for it and a positive PCR for mycoplasma fermentans.
Treatment for these are also different. I responded to abx treatment for m.fermentans and did not respond to abx for m.pneumoniae.
PCR is the only real way to determine which species you have in my opinion.
