I don't see Augmentim anywhere as treatment, but I had to start taking it for likely periodontal disease flaring and spreading to ear and jaw pain.
Seems to help RIGHT AWAY. Been on Zithro and Plaquenil and very slow low dose Bactrim. But seems like Augmentim is helping all symptoms a bit and wondering if it is psychological or if it can affect Lyme and co's even this late in the game?

Positive Elisa's since 2005 (2008 & 2010)
Typical Bulls Eye rash in 2008
Never tested by Igenex, just Mayo Clinic, neg blot

Yes it would hit TBI's as Augmentin contains Amoxicillin and Clauvalanic. Amoxicillin is ofter used for treatment and Augmentin is similar to penicillin. Not sure if it's the best choice, as I don't' have experience with it but what you are feeling would make sense.

http://www.medicinenet.com/amoxicillin_and_clavulanic_acid/article.htm

GENERIC NAME: amoxicillin and clavulanic acid
BRAND NAME: Augmentin, Augmentin XR

DRUG CLASS: Amoxicillin is an antibiotic of the penicillin type. It is effective against different bacteria such as H. influenzae, N. gonorrhea, E. coli, Pneumococci, Streptococci, and certain strains of Staphylococci. Chemically, it is closely related to penicillin and ampicillin. Addition of clavulanic acid to amoxicillin in Augmentin enhances the effectiveness of this antibiotic against many other bacteria that are ordinarily resistant to amoxicillin.

It may not be a big player but could be very effective, albeit a lesser known one. I think there are lots of drugs out there, that just work and no one knows why. The one time I was on a penicillin (long before I knew what this mess was) I had major, major relief from symptoms. Here's a similar article with the same situation.

I want to try Augmentin.

maybe i'll just keep taking it along with the zithro, plaquenil and bactrim. but i fear my lyme doc will say no, and be pretty mad if she thought I just took it upon myself to take it.

i have not read about any drug reaction with mixing Augmentim with the others.

if anyone here has heard of any negative issues with mixing these pls do let me know.

Thks

Augmentin is used to treat lyme. See pages 14 and 18 of Burrascano Guidelines.

I got rid of lyme taking amoxicillin, which is in Augmentin.

In "The Lyme Disease Solution" it says Augmentin is very effective and to take augmentin with zith and flagyl to attack all forms of lyme. (page 245)

TF, how many days did it take you to feel better while on Amoxicillin? I'm taking it right now and have horrible fatigue.

I just do not believe my illness is the same you dealt with based on how differently we seem to react to treatment. I could be wrong, but....

I have been on it for 3 months and I think it has been most effective for my brain issues. I have been able to remember what I want to say and don't stutter. I didn't herx on it though like I have on Doxy and Zith. I had issues with both so I tried augmentin. It does give me "woman Yeast infections" though.

seek, I started taking amoxicillin 9 years ago, so it is a long time back to try to remember. I don't remember how long it took for me to feel better, but my guess is 3 months. In that 3 months, I just felt the same awful symptoms I had been feeling.

The lyme doc prior to this put me on various meds for 3 months and I didn't feel any better on any of them either except that the feeling of being stabbed with hundreds of pins went away.

So, that means that I treated for 6 months before I started to feel any letup in fatigue or any of the many other horrible symptoms. For me, the fatigue was disabling along with the extreme muscle weakness.

I am not saying that in 6 months I felt good, just that I STARTED to notice a little improvement after 6 months of continuous treatment.

I took 1,500 mg of amoxi 3 times per day plus probinecid.

I was just put on Augmentin. So far it has me very tired. I will keep you posted. I am also on plaqenil soon to be coartem, malerone and levaquin. We are trying to treat Bart Babs and Lyme. My doc says you just have to be clever and keep cycling through the drugs. I am listening to him [Smile]

there has been a study recently showing it doesnt cause so much cysts like doxy.

it tried it, it helped against my fatigue but caused so much brainfog i had to stop it. i guess it did because it was effective.

So far the Augmentin is still making me tired but with the Coartem, I had the best day of foot pain in two years (close to ZERO). Now, I wonder is the foot pain Lyme, Babs or Bart... Gosh... these insane diseases. I have been impressed with my symptom relief... wondering if this was one of the magic drugs that I never taken.

Not to change the subject but I am on IV Doxy and Vanco but have not been on a cyst buster. I didn't know doxy caused cyst form. I am starting tindamax for the cysts. I am probably in for some serious pain.

SO are some people saying on this thread they they have been able to recover a good deal without the heavy cyst busters? That would be good news telling the lyme community that not everyone needs such potentially brutal cyst busters to get better. I sure hope that is the case for at least some of us! j
